Merino store wether lambs top at $135 on AuctionsPlus

WA-sheep-8The top line of Merino wethers hailing from Forbes, NSW, made $135, on AuctionsPlus last week.

These June/July 2016 drop store wether lambs weigh 41kg live consisting of Kerin Poll blood. The lambs are October 2016 shorn, and are carrying a good woolly jacket.

Merino wether lambs averaged $102 this week.

Sheep numbers decreased on AuctionsPlus to a total listing of 41,011 which was 4,246 head less from last week.

Sheep were listed from near and far this week, with sheep hailing from Longreach, Central QLD, down to Tasmania. The total clearance rate for commercial sheep this week was 83%.

Merino ewes from Laggan, NSW topped this week’s price at $244. These Currabungla bred Merino ewes are 3.5-5.5 years old and are SIL to Border Leicester rams. These girls also cutting $80 worth of wool in 2017.

Another stand out line of Merino ewes this week was found in the town of West Wyalong, NSW. These rising 5-year olds made an impressive $196.50 and are on the move to Victoria. The Southern state is where these ewes will have lambs as they are SIL to Poll Dorset rams.

A line of 20-21-month-old Merino ewes from Talwood, QLD made $165. These ewes have been recently shorn in April and are also station mated to Border Leicester rams. These girls are heading into Central NSW to enjoy the Winter months ahead.

First cross ewes this week again making extreme prices with the top line of ewes making $324. These ewes are only 12-13 months old hailing from Curramulka, Yorke Penninsula.

These ewes are SIL to Suffolk rams and are heading closer to the boarder to Bordertown, SA. Ewes and lambs from the same vendor also made an impressive $351.50. These 3-7-year-old ewes are unjoined and ready to join to the ram of choice, along with sappy Dorset lambs at foot averaging 22kg.

Dorper ewes this week from Finley, NSW made a solid $201. The 2-7-year-old ewes are SIL to Wiltipoll rams. Two lines of mixed aged Suffolk ewes from Langkoop, SA made $180. These ewes are also SIL back to Suffolk rams.

27 kg to 29 kg made $95.50 to $115 to average $106 or 322c/kg live
34 kg to 36 kg made $104 to $126.50 to average $118.50 or 338c/kg live
40 kg to 42 kg made $109 to $139.50 to average $124 or 297c/kg live

First cross store wether lambs from Nyngan, NSW made $134.50 for 42.3 kg lambs. These lambs are out of Retallack Border Leicester’s and lambs are showing good depth and length, suited for a fattening operation.  Frist cross wether lambs averaged $130 this week.

The Tasmanian Sheep Sale this week had a large listing of 4,211 head offered this week with the sale having a clearance rate of 100%.

A standout line of Corriedale export wethers lambs made a solid $153 from Oatlands, TAS. Another large line of 1,300 wethers split over two lots made an impressive $120 for 50.7 kg and $102.50 for 45.1kg wethers. Both lots are heading to the mainland into a restocker.
