Lion Dairy dominate Grand Dairy Cheese Awards with gruyere

Lion-3

Heidi Farm’s Gruyere was acknowledged as Australia’s premier cheese.

Lion Dairy & Drinks’ (LDD) cheeses have claimed five awards, including the Grand Champion Cheese, at the Australian Grand Dairy Awards in Melbourne.

Heidi Farm’s Gruyere, made at LD&D’s The Heritage site in Burnie Tasmania, was acknowledged as Australia’s premier cheese, taking out the Grand Champion Award as well as Champion in the Semi-Hard and Eye Cheese category.

Head cheesemaker Ueli Berger said the Heidi Farm Gruyere was one of his favourites:

“It’s a bit stronger than a brie or camembert but at the same time it’s not overpowering,” Ueli Berger said.

“Patience and attention to detail are the key ingredients to making a great cheese.”

Our other award winners were:

Champion Blue Cheese

King Island Dairy Black Label Triple Cream Blue

Champion Washed Rind Cheese

King Island Dairy Stormy Washed Rind

Champion Hard Cheese

South Cape Parmesan

Lion Dairy & Drinks’ Managing Director Peter West said the awards were a credit to the hundreds of people who work at LD&D’s King Island and Burnie manufacturing sites.

“These awards are due recognition for not only our creative and talented cheesemakers but to all our people,” Mr West said.

“To have our cheeses named Grand Champion and champion means we have the best of the best and that’s something we should all celebrate.

“We’re so proud to have these great brands in our portfolio and are dedicated to consistently bringing great quality produce to our consumers.”
