Mutton indicator rises 4c/kg to 316c/kg cwt in sheep markets

Forbes-5At the close of Thursday’s markets, the eastern states restocker lamb indicator held steady, at 546¢/kg cwt.

Merino lambs gained 1¢ to 497¢/kg cw, light lambs were steady on 529¢/kg cwt, trade lambs were back 3¢, to 531¢/kg cwt, heavy lambs were back 3¢, to 531¢/kg cw and the mutton indicator was 4¢ dearer on 316¢/kg cwt.

Wagga lamb throughput increased 52% week-on-week, to 32,000 head. Quality improved across all trade lamb categories, with grain-fed and Lucerne finished lines well supplied. There was a notable selection of heavy lambs on offer, with lighter categories suitable to restock, selling to strong demand.

  • Trade weight 3 score old lambs to slaughter were 22¢ lower, on 525¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score old lambs to slaughter were 10¢ lower on 542¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs were 3¢ lower on 531¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 2 score Merino ewes were up 6¢ dearer, at 312¢/kg cwt
