Shorthorn bulls sell to $18,000 and heifers to $8000 at Sprys

Screen Shot 2016-04-28 at 5.13.04 pmSpry’s Shorthorns celebrated their 52nd Annual on property bull sale, 2016, with a bang, in front of a massive crowd.
A huge crowd, with a genuine mood of optimism, overshadowed a tough season in South Eastern Australia, to see the Sprys Shorthorns bull sale reach outstanding highs.
In total:

4 heifers sold to a top of $8,000 to ave. $6,125
36 from 38 Shorthorn sires sold to a top of $18,000 to ave. $8,722
1 flush sold to $6,500
2 semen packages in Waukaru Patent 8161 ave $375 per straw

The top priced Shorthorn sire was lot 18, Outback Spry’s Genesis K272, selling to Howard Williams, Marrington Shorthorns, Dubbo, NSW. Genesis K272, was a moderate, well muscled son of Spry’s Genesis G019, and the first calf of dam, Outback Judith H219, a full sister to the $43,500 Sprys Ace G38.

Outback Spry’s Genesis K272 was in the top 25% of the breed for Calving Ease Direct, Birthweight and 200 day growth, Top 10% of the breed for 600 day growth yet retained a moderate mature cow weight EBV.

A flush offered in  Sprys Tide Rips Frances H179 (P) sold to WA for $6500.

The top priced female was Lot 2, Sprys Miss Informant L86 (P),selling for $8000 to the Spencer family.

The greatest highlight though was the presence of new commercial clients providing competition for existing Sprys clients and prepared to invest heavily to win their chosen Shorthorn sires.

Commercial producers underpinned the day, with many chasing Shorthorn sires up to and beyond the $10,000 mark. Whilst 7 Shorthorn sires sold for $10,000 or above, the catalogue still represented excellent value for commercial breeders, with 10 sires selling for commercially attractive rates of $6,000 or below.

Thousand Guineas product from the new JBS Australia Shorthorn branded program was also served at the sale and proved a tremendous highlight with the huge crowd.
