Short term arrangements for Brownes dairy suppliers

SA-cows-2A short term arrangement has been secured for the three Western Australian dairy farmers whose contracts with the processor Brownes have expired.

“An arrangement has been put in place that will see the milk collected for the next two weeks, and during that time further negotiations will take place to come to a longer term solution,” WAFarmers Chief Executive Officer Stephen Brown said.

“WAFarmers will continue to be involved in this process.”

WAFarmers Dairy Council President Michael Partridge said WAFarmers had been in collaborative and cooperative talks with the State and Federal Governments and industry since the announcement by Brownes that the contracts would cease at the end of September.

“Over the last few months, we have done everything we could to ensure that these farmers stay in contract since Brownes announced their intentions earlier this year, and are pleased that a short term arrangement has been made,” Mr Partridge said.

“We hope that the long term solution will ensure that not only will the milk from these three dairy farmers continue to be collected, but the entire WA dairy industry will benefit in the long term.”
