Light and heavy lambs plus Merinos up at markets this week

Wagga-sheep-10At the close of Wednesday’s markets, the eastern states restocker lamb indicator averaged 10¢ dearer on 605¢/kg cwt

  • Merino lambs gained 1¢, on 507¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs averaged 547¢, up 6¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs settled 3¢ higher on 547¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were up 2¢, on 536¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator slipped 6¢ to average 361¢/kg cwt
  • Number declined by 22% at CTLX Carcoar to total 5,350 head week-on-week. It was a good quality yarding, with a good selection of new season lambs in good condition however old lamb and mutton quality was mixed.
  • Trade weight 3 score young lambs to slaughter gained 7¢ to average 556¢/kg cwt
  • Light weight 2 score old Merino lambs topped at 527¢ and averaged 465¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes were 15¢ dearer, settling on 322¢/kg cwt

Wet weather saw supply at Horsham ease to total 8,684 head week-on-week. Quality was again good, with the usual buying group operating in a firm to dearer lamb market while less competition saw the sheep market ease.

  • Light weight 3 score lambs to processors jumped 25¢ to average 560¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score young lambs to slaughter gained 20¢ to average 546¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes slipped 52¢ to average 378¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight, 4 score, first cross ewes eased 16¢ to average 321¢/kg cwt
