First cross ewes sold to $199 last week.

Staying in the Central West, 1 to 3 year old White Dorper ewes from Nyngan, NSW sold for $241.50 on AuctionsPlus last week.

Scanned in lamb to Aussie White rams, these ewes tipped the scales at 72kg.

While White Suffolk/Merino ewe hoggets from Wagga Wagga, NSW sold for $206. This mob weighed 67kg, had a 2.5’’ skin and were scanned in lamb to Poll Dorset rams.

Numbers of Merino ewe lambs were bolstered by an offering of 876 head from Yass, NSW and prices averaged $134, with a range of $115 to $139.

The top priced future breeders were Bogo blood and weighed 36kg.  Merino hoggets prices averaged $155 and were also topped by a line of Bogo blood ewes, which were scanned in lamb to Retallack Border Leicester rams. This mob from Cooma, NSW had a 2.5’’ inch skin and sold for $200.

Aged Merino breeders ranging from 4 to 7 years, averaged $135 and were topped by a line of 4 to 6 year old Poll Merinos from Pooncarie, NSW. This mob had a 2’’ skin, were scanned in lamb to White Suffolk rams and sold for $185. The same vendor also offered 2 and 3 year old younger sisters which sold for $208.
A smaller offering of Merino wether lambs saw prices average $84 and range from $62.50 to a top of $111. This was a line of 39kg Wallaloo Park blood lambs from Glenorchy, VIC which were June shorn and sold for $111. While woolly 36kg Merino wether lambs with a mostly 2’’ skin from Milparkina, NSW sold for $101.
The limited offering of first cross Border Leicester/Merino ewes and ewe lambs did not stop the annual sale of the Howe family’s first cross ewes from generating interest from VIC and NSW bidders. The 56kg 11 to 12 month old ewes from Trangie, NSW were out of Haddon Rid blood ewes, by Dunnield Border Leicester rams and sold for $199.
