Young people are being given the opportunity to participate in the upcoming National All Breeds Dairy Youth Camp.

With places filling fast, Event Organiser, Industry Trainer for GOTAFE National Centre for Dairy Education, Lucy Galt said the Camp is set to be the best yet.

“We are really excited about the positive response to the expression of interest campaign. We have also been humbled by the amount of support and sponsorship offered by both local and nation organisations including International Dairy Week, Dairy Australia and the Dairy Beef Alliance,” explained Ms Galt.

Open to participants between 16 and 20 years of age, the Camp aims to support young people as they develop their leadership and teamwork skills, plus foster a passion for the dairy industry. No dairy experience necessary.

“Participants will develop their confidence in handling dairy Heifers, discuss breeding and new technology. Each participant is supplied with a Heifer and will learn how to care for the animal in the lead up to competition day.

“Participants also learn judging, showing and clipping skills, take part in team activities and also peer judging of each other’s showmanship,” explained Ms Galt.

The Camp, held from in early January of each year also provides excellent preparation for the International Dairy Week held from Sunday 21 to Thursday 25 January 2018.
