First cross ewe lambs and hoggets make up to $200

There was plenty of interstate buying activity happening this week, as buyers scoured catalogues.

Sheep and lamb numbers offered online fell back last week as dry conditions continued across much of NSW and parts VIC,while areas of South Eastern Queensland saw some relief.

Across the Lamb sale, Tuesday and Thursday sheep sales there was 72,692 head offered, 44,000 less than last week. Despite this fall in numbers, 407 unique bidders logged into the sales across the week, with a clearance of 68% across the sales.

There was 20,000 Merino ewes and ewe lambs offered this week. Ewe hoggets sold this week from $79.50 to $220 and averaged $161.

The top price ewes were a line Andoma blood 14-15 month old unjoined ewes from Kaniva, VIC, which averaged 59kg. While a line of 15-16 month old 51kg Merino hoggets from Raby Stud, Warren, NSW sold for $200.

Young and proven Merino breeders offered this week averaged $109, and sold from $40.50 to a top of $151.50. The top priced mob were a line of 72kg, 2 to 5 year old, Egelabra blood unjoined ewes from Coonamble, NSW.

Merino wether lambs this week averaging $86.50 and were topped by Sherlock blood, 2017 April/May drop, 49kg lambs which had a 2’’ inch skin, from Wynarka, SA, selling for $105.50.

While grown Merino wethers were topped by a mob of 2 year old, Gleneden blood wool cutters from Gringegalgona, VIC, which had 1.75’’ inch skin and sold for $125.

Lamb sales continued to roll on this week, with 33,000 store lambs offered across the sales this week. It was all NSW lambs taking the biscuits this week with 38kg, 2nd cross Poll Dorset, June/July drop, mixed sex suckers from Ariah Park, NSW topped the sale this week selling for $130.50.

While, 43kg Border Leicester/Merino mixed sex lambs from Warren, NSW sold for $130. 32kg Border Leicester/Merino mixed sex lambs from Nyngan, NSW sold to $117.50.

Stock on the move this week included 14 to 15 month old Border Leicester/Merino hoggets from Gilgandra, NSW will be making 936km trip down to Ballarat, VIC. While a line of 46kg 15 to 16 month old Merino hoggets from Warren, NSW will be heading the fastest route down to Colebatch, SA, a 1,162km journey.
