Restocking lambs reach $140 for heavier weights

Restocking 2 score lambs lifted $10 to $13 and sold from $89 to $124 and the reached $140/head for the heavier weights at SELX this week.

Lamb numbers eased and contained 13,000 new season lambs. Quality was mixed containing some very good and neat trade and heavy lambs. Extra heavy weights remain in short supply.

Store lambs were in good numbers and sold to strong competition. Merino lambs numbers eased and was the main contributor to the drop in overall numbers. Only a few old lambs were offered.

The medium and heavy trade weights were firm to $5 dearer and ranged from $134 to $152/head. Heavy lambs were firm to a little cheaper on the heavier end and were selling from $150 to $186/head. Carcase prices averaged between 600c for the heavy lambs to 650c/kg for the lighter trades.

Heavy old lambs sold to $166/head. Merino lambs were mostly light weights and sold to $118/head. The best of the hoggets reached $151/head.

Mutton numbers eased and the quality was a little more mixed. Prices were firm to $5/head cheaper on the heavy weights.

Medium weight ewes sold from $100 to $123/head. Heavy crossbreds ranged from $129 to $138/head. Merino wethers sold to a top of $150/head.
