Restocking lambs up by $5 to $128/head at SELX

SELX-sheep-Nov-24

Michael Hall Livestock topped today’s sale with XB Suckers from Tarcutta, topping at $194ph.

The 2 score restocking lambs were firm to $5/head dearer especially on the lighter weight with prices ranging from $80 to $128/head at SELX this week.

Lamb numbers lifted and the increase came in the new season lambs, which totalled nearly 25,000 head.

Trade weights and heavy lambs were well supplied with good number showing plenty of finish and extra heavy lambs were limited.

The main lift in numbers came in an increase in light 2 score lambs with most returned to the paddock. Merino lambs fell in volume to only 400 head and old lambs were limited.

All the usual processors and a few extra restocking orders were in place.

New season trade weights averaged $3 to $5 cheaper with the medium and heavy trades at $120 to $145/head to average 590c/kg.

Heavy lambs eased $3 to $6 and sold from $145 to $160 with extra heavy lambs making $194, back by up to $10/head. Most have averaged 560c to 570c/kg. Heavy old lambs made to $144/head.

Mutton numbers eased and the quality was good with a lot of medium and heavy sheep penned. The market trend was $5 to $10 dearer with medium weight ewes selling from $86 to $129 and heavy crossbred ewes reached $160/head.
