Unjoined Southdown ewes top at $450 on AuctionsPlus

Sheep-Dec-11Top price for females went to a line of 13 Southdown ewes, aged 2 – 2.5 years NSM, weighing 85kg, selling for $450 on AuctionsPlus.

David Welsh and Colin Broughton of Landmark Benalla and Euroa in VIC conducted their 13th Annual North East Victorian Lamb, Backgrounder and Finisher Sale.

Achieving a 100% clearance rate, 15,416 head were sold for multiple vendors to buyers in VIC, NSW and SA. The sale achieved an average price of $116 for lambs and suckers.

Rounding out the special sales this week was Cashmore Oaklea’s Ewe Sale with their June/July drop future breeders topping at $219.

Sheep numbers were strong again totaling 119,785 head, just edging above numbers from last week.

Demand was high with a clearance rate across the total yarding of 75%. Special mention goes to Dean Hubbard and David Halleen of Elders Midland in WA on the successful flock dispersal of Wemyss Estates.

Merino ewe lambs and hoggets ranged from $80 to $228.5, to average $167. Young breeders were in tight supply, selling from $174 to $196, averaging $184. Proven breeders sold from $76.5 to $215, to average $147.
Merino wether lambs were highly sought after, seeing nothing left on the table. Lambs sold from $72 to $127, averaging $101. A single lot of hoggets were offered, aged 13-14 months, weighing 47kg, hailing from Cooma, NSW, selling for $126.
First cross ewe lambs and hoggets sold from $150 to $240, averaging $184. Top price went to Parish Rural of Tintinara, SA for a quality line of future breeders. Weighing 53kg, the lambs are bred by Inverbrackie Super Border rams out of SA bred merino ewes.
Crossbred ewes were well represented across all age categories. Lambs sold from $120 to $219, for an average of $219. Top dollar went to a line of Composite future breeders, weighing 61kg from Millicent, SA. Ewe hoggets sold from $135 to $254, to average $201. Young breeders sold from $134.5 to $291, averaging $180. Proven breeders sold from $120 to $190, to average $148.
Top priced store lambs by c/kg sold for 420c/kg or $113 for a line of Border Leicester/Merino mixed sex suckers weighing 27kg from Binalong, NSW. Top price by $/head sold for $141.5 or 340c/kg for a line of Poll Dorset cross mixed sex lambs weighing 42kg from Wellington, NSW.
