Buyers choice goes for $10,000 at Harvest at Gallrae

Large scale Dairy Farmers Stewart and Nita McRae of Denison in East Gippsland recently staged the ‘Harvest at Gallrae’ sale featuring very high BPI Holsteins.

Sale top of $10,000 was paid for the buyers choice of the entire herd, with lot 1, Gallrae 1051 Flamer Lola 1474 a 4 month old heifer with a BPI of +325 being selected by Trevor Henry of Tinamba.

This top calf was backed by 11 gens of EX & VG dams from the famed Lucky family. This same buyer also selected Gallrae Delsanto Olucky 937 VG 86, a 12th gen EX & VG cow with PI to 128 at $4000 and Gallrae 991 Rocky Dora 1329 a yearling with BPI +282 from a VG Twist dam also at $4000.

Second top price of $5500 was paid for Gallrae 839 Rocky Lola 1304, this joined heifer boasted a BPI of +300 and sold to M & M Axford of Korumburra. Next top of $5200 was paid by Troy Smethurst of Athlone for Gallrae 715 Buddha Opeachy 966 (ET) VG 86, a top young cow with PI to 130.

Genetics Australia purchased Gallrae 991 Flamer Dora 1486 a 3 month old heifer calf with a BPI +318 at $4700. Emu Banks Holsteins of the Dickson Family in Western Victoria selected several lots including Gallrae Buddha 971 Lola 1110 at $4400 and Gallrae 1021 Montross 1217 at $4000.

Other noted sales included Gallrae Goldcrown Dora 987 (ET) at $4250, a top young cow with 3.6 % protein to W & J Stewart of Newbridge who selected several lots throughout the sale. Gallrae Twist Lola 982 (ET) VG, an 11th gen EX & VG with BPI +262 at $4000 and Gallrae Goldcrown Dora 983 (ET) GP with BPI +329 also at $4000 both selling to B Winter of Warragul.

Selling agents Dairy Livestock Services report buyers were from all areas of Victoria.
