Mark Lucas, Reiland Angus co-principal, expects a yarding of 700 quality commercial females for the invitational Premier Angus Breeder Sale on February 21.

With joinable age females a highly sought after commodity, Reiland Angus will host an invitational Premier Angus Breeder Sale at Gundagai next month.

The sale of commercial breeders will be held on soft flooring at the Gundagai Saleyards on Wednesday, February 21, from 11am.

Selling agents Elders Tumut and Landmark Wagga will yard cows with spring 2017 drop calves, cows joined for a March to July calving, spring calving cows, autumn calving heifers, spring drop heifers joined to calve August-September, and autumn drop heifer weaners.

Also included will be spring calving heifers artificially inseminated to Reiland and industry sires.

A highlight of the sale will be the part dispersal of 100 seven-year-old spring calving Reiland blood cows by Glenn Lucas, Taranee Pastoral Company, Tarcutta.

Reiland Angus co-principal Mark Lucas is anticipating around 700 females for the sale.

Mr Lucas said the sale represented a unique opportunity to market genuine surplus females for industry competition.

“All of the cattle on offer are vendor bred and surplus to requirements,’’ Mr Lucas said.

“They have been fertility, temperament and production tested.

“It will be a great opportunity for restockers and those looking to expand their herds, or for people wanting to sell older cows and replace them with a cow and calf.’’

Mr Lucas said videos of all lots would be posted on the Landmark and Elders digital networks.

He said Gundagai saleyards was chosen as the venue due to the highway location, recent renovations, soft flooring, watering points and its recognition as a blue ribbon Angus breeding region.

From the heart of the Reiland commercial herd will be offered 100 spring calving cows, aged five to seven years (to be drafted in age groups), with spring-drop calves at foot, 40 pregnancy-tested-in-calf heifers due to calve in autumn to Reiland bulls, and 20 cows autumn calving to Reiland sires.

“It is with pride Reiland Angus, with the support of loyal clients, has initiated a genuine Angus breeder sale outlet for quality surplus females, selected for soundness and docility,’’ Mr Lucas said.

“Over the years, it has been highly satisfying working with clients who have invested in quality genetics and are now reaping the financial rewards.

“Numerous clients are receiving bonus returns above industry’s norms and invaluable feedback on feedlot performance.’’

Vendor Glenn Lucas, Tarcutta, has sold a property and will offer a genuine part-dispersal of seven-year-old cows with their spring drop calves and rejoined to Reiland bulls.

Mr Lucas said the cow’s progeny were sold as feeder steers to JBS Australia.

“This is a premier sale and all the cows I’m sending will be sound and without fault, and are a great opportunity for someone looking for breeding females,’’ he said.
