International trade expert to share market access insights

Andrew-McCallumMeat and Livestock Australia’s Global Manager for Trade and Market Access Andrew McCallum will share his insights into global beef markets, ahead of Injemira’s annual production sale on February 20.

Mr McCallum leads MLA’s international trade portfolio, responsible for promoting the interests of Australia’s red meat industry through input into World Trade Organisation discussions and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.

He is also responsible for trade reform advocacy and developing advice on bilateral and technical market access issues to reduce or remove trade restrictions and increase Australia’s global competiveness.

On sale day, Mr McCallum will be speaking about the challenges and opportunities for Australia’s red meat sector on the international trade front, with particular focus on the European Union (EU).

The EU, which remains Australia’s highest value beef market on a per kilo basis, reflects an extraordinary trade opportunity for beef producers if greater market access can be achieved via successful negotiation of the Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement.

Injemira principle Marc Greening said Mr McCallum has one of the most important roles in the Australian beef industry.

“As an export focused sector, facilitating trade and improving market access will continue to be key objectives for Australia’s beef industry”, Mr Greening said.

With regard to greater access to the EU, Mr Greening said the industry should be encouraged by the opportunity to renegotiate the import regime to the historically restrictive market.

“Many Injemira clients supply the EU market and improved access under the FTA will directly affect our bottom line” he said.

“The EU will continue to import high quality food products and Australian beef producers are well positioned to meet the future demand of the market” he said.

Mr McCallum has a background in trade advocacy, market research and international marketing and has previously held positons within Government, industry service organisations and the commercial consultancy sector.

Mr Greening encourages all his clients to take advantage of the opportunity to speak directly with Andrew, who will be available before and after the sale to answer any questions.

Injemira Beef Genetics is a family owned and run whiteface seedstock business, and conducts one of Australia’s largest on property Hereford bull sales.

Injemira’s 47th annual production sale will be held at ‘Kiloran’ Book Book, via wagga Wagga NSW on Tuesday, 20 February.

Mr McCallum will be presenting at 12:45pm, with the sale starting at 1:00pm.
