Rainfall returns strength to cattle market

It has been a busy start to the new year on the back of a hot dry summer.

The recent rainfall events across large parts of QLD and NSW have certainly put some strength back into all markets and given producers the opportunity to either have a spell or sow some winter crop.

This has added cautious optimism, however as always, a decent follow up rain is needed to get some feed growth before it sets in cold and to put much needed moisture onto any crop germination.

There is no doubt markets will continue to firm on more rain, if not we will continue to see large numbers on offer at the larger regional selling centres for the next few weeks.

It is always amazing that the cattle numbers will run, even when the statistics say otherwise.

All physical rates and direct rates lifted this week, feeder types are back up over $3kg again, while  weaners are up around the mid to high 3’s. Cow rates have also lifted.
