The 59th Dectomax National Shorthorn Show and Sale has defied the trend this week, posting a very solid result despite extremely trying seasonal conditions across much of the sales traditional catchment area.
In total, 91 bulls sold from the 124 offered to a top of $40,000, for a 73% clearance and an overall average of $6835.
Top price honours went to the last lot of the day in Royalla Tremain M260, selling to $40,000.
He was purchased by Belmore Shorthorns, Lucindale , SA and Moreton Shorthorns, NZ. At 22 months, Tremain M260 weighed 868 kilograms and was crowned the Division 3 Champion by judge Stephen Peake the previous day.
Sired by Futurity Fully Loaded F109 and from the Royalla Rosebud H167 dam, Tremain also offered a tremendously balanced set of performance figures across his EBV profile.
Andy Withers, Belmore Shorthorns, wasn’t expecting to have to pay $40,000 to get the bull but he wasn’t disappointed.
He said the bull had “incredible” structural soundness and muscle pattern and a “beautiful” temperament and fat cover.

The 23-month-old bull was by Sprys Annies Legend F98 out of Bayview Flossie B6, weighing in at 1050kg with an actual EMA of 135cm. Mr Rollinson went on to purchase a total of 3 sires, averaging $12,300 for his draft.
Bayview Shorthorns went on to sell 5 sires to an impressive average of $12,400.
The sale was underpinned by excellent commercial demand with buyers coming from local areas and further afield. In the final washup, sires sold to all Eastern States as well as SA and WA.
Multiple buyers included Merriwee Pastoral Company, Condobolin, purchasing 11 sires.
PR Gould & Co, Lucindale purchased a total of 7 sires, topping at $12,000 three times for Lot 47 Leeds Franklin M25, Lot 89 Nagol Park XLT M104, and Lot 130 Polldale Manager M38.
Nicholls Bros, “Wandeeen”, Gundagai, also purchased four sires, topping at $7000 twice.
