Merino wether lambs to $128 and ewe lambs $233

These Glendamar blood ewe lambs from Nyngan, NSW, sold for $233.

Sheep and lamb numbers dipped slightly this week by just over 4,000 head to see 50,042 head offered.

New South Wales continued to dominate the listings with 75% of the offering.

The strong market continued this week with an 84% clearance across all sales.

The lamb sale this week saw plenty of interstate buying with high activity from the Southern states.

South Australian buyers purchased 26% of the New South Wales lambs, with a line of 12 to 13-month-old NSM Border Leicester/ Merino hoggets from Thallon, QLD, being purchased out of Spence, SA, a 1,600km journey. While Victorian buyers purchased lambs from as far north as Collarenebri, NSW.

Merino ewe lambs averaged $157, selling from $54.50 to $233. The top priced line was a mob of 11 to 12-month-old, MPM Glendamar blood unjoined future breeders from Nyngan, NSW.

This mob which had a 2.5’’ skin sold for $233. Buyers must have seen something in the woolly Merinos from North West, NSW; as the top priced lot of NSM Merino ewes was a line from Gulargambone, NSW.

This 14 to 15-month-old mob also had a 2.5’’ skin and sold for $202. Unjoned Merino ewes averaged $151, selling from $82 to $202.

Merino ewes with lambs at foot were topped by a line of 2-year-old, 53kg Greenfields blood ewes with Poll Merino lambs. This mob from Jamestown, SA sold for $230.50.

Merino wether lambs firmed on last week with a national average of $76 and sold from $32.50 to $128. They were topped by a line of April/May 18’ drop, Greenfield blood wool growers from Tintinara, SA selling for $128.

Merino wethers had strong buyer interest across the sales this week seeing a 100% clearance nationally.

The top priced mob was a line of 42kg 12 to 13-month-old Kerri Kerri blood woolly weathers, which had a 2.5’’ skin.

This mob from Maude, NSW sold for $123. Grown Merino wethers ranged from $69.50 to $123, with an average of $88.

First Cross ewes and ewe lambs were topped by a line of 58kg Aug/Sept 17’ drop future breeders from Violet Town, VIC, which sold for $234.

Ewe lambs averaged $177, with a range of $150 to $234. While 3 to 8-year-old unjoined First Cross ewes from Blayney, NSW sold for $231.

This mob had Dorset and White Suffolk lambs at foot. 6 to 8-year-old First Cross ewes with Yarram Park blood Composite lambs at foot from Cavendish, VIC sold for $220.
