Angus Australia has announced Kate Schoen as the 2019 Angus National Conference Scholarship recipient.
Thanks to the Angus Foundation, Kate will attend the Angus through the Ages National Conference in Albury on May 23-24.
The aim of the scholarship is to increase Kate’s knowledge of the Angus breed and the beef industry, give her the opportunity to network with likeminded individuals and develop her personal skills.
Kate has been an active member in the Angus Youth program and Angus Australia for a number of years.
“I have always had a keen interest in the Angus breed and agriculture through growing up on our family farm and Angus stud. Since leaving school and home I have enjoyed many aspects of the angus/agricultural industry including time spent in genetics, intensive pig production, commercial and stud cattle and sheep.”
Alongside her husband Murk, Kate manages Schoen Pastoral, an intensive mixed farming operation made up of different enterprises including irrigated and dryland winter and summer cropping, prime lamb, stud and commercial cattle as well as opportunistic trading of cattle and sheep.
Kate and Murk established Aarden Angus in 2017, and now own 20 Stud females. Together they are looking to expand this element to become a key part of our farming business.
“I have always had a keen interest in breeding but have a wide interest in the agriculture from breeding, feeding and marketing. However, my passion has always been Angus seedstock cattle.”
Kate believes that the drawcard to the Angus breed is the amount of data, science, scope and investment that is behind the breed which in return aligns with the view to try to implement new technology to increase the health and sustainability of the environment of the farm all while increasing production.
“I have been wanting to attend the Angus National Conference for many years. A few of the key speakers this year have really sparked my interest.”
“Other than information on topics that I would like to be better informed on including genomics and marketing, I look forward on making new contacts and meeting new people from within our breed and industry.”

The conference will celebrate Angus through the Ages, with a wide range of topics set to be discussed regarding the latest information developed by Angus Australia.
