Demand for merino ewe lambs remains high with an 88% clearance for the category, selling from $110.5 to $181 to averaged $149, $16 down on last week on AuctionsPlus.

Top price was achieved by a line of 360, North Run blood ewes from Wanganella, NSW. These ewe lambs are Jun/Jul 18’ drop, weigh 33kgs and will travel interstate to Wycheproof, VIC.

Ewe hoggets sold from $125 to $205, averaging $172, $3 down on last week. From Lower Light, SA a line of 100 Gum Hill blood NSM ewes returned the top price.

These ewes are 52kgs with a 1 1/3” skin and will be remaining in SA. Young breeders (2-4 years) averaged $157, selling from $90 to $271. Proven breeders (4 – 7 years) sold from $102 to $230, averaging $166.

From Cradock, SA a line of 470 Mernowie & Baderloo blood ewes returned the top price. These ewes are rising 5 years, weigh 62kgs with a 2 ½” skin, are SIL to Poll Merino rams and will remain in SA finding a buyer locally.

Other merino highlights this week include a line of 5-5.5 year old Wallaloo blood ewes from Balranald, NSW with White Suffolk sired lambs at foot crossing the border to Dadswells Bridge, VIC sell for $302.

From Longreach, QLD a line of 850 ewes, station mated to Merino rams sold for $125. These ewes are 4-6 years, weigh 58kgs freshly shorn and will remain in QLD.

Merino wether lambs made up 21% of the listings this week with buyer demand seeing a 70% clearing for the category.

Averaging $120, $7 up on last week the lambs sold from $76 to $159. The top price was achieved by a line of 450 Yarrawong & Tallawong blood lambs from Yass, NSW.

The lambs are Sep/Oct 18’ drop, weigh 34kgs with a 2” skin and find themselves travelling across the border to Delacombe, VIC. Merino wether hoggets sold from $87 to $135, averaging $119, $4 up on last week. From Branxholme, VIC two lines of 240 Woodpark/Warrook blood wethers achieved the top price. These wethers are 1-2 years, are freshly shorn weighing 45kgs, finding a buyer locally.

One line of grown merino wethers were offered this week returning $156. From Sorell, TAS these wethers are 5-5.5 years, weigh 58kgs with a 1 ½” skin and find themselves travelling across the Tasman sea to VIC.

Other highlights this week include a line of Yalgoo, Karori & Parkdale blood wether lambs from Guyra, NSW traveling 1,200kms to a buyer at Wycheproof, VIC. These lambs are Oct/Nov 18’ drop, weigh 29kgs with a 1 ½” skin and returned $99.

Border Leicester/Merino ewe lambs averaged $203, $27 up on last week, selling from $143 to $241. The top price went to a line of 1st cross future breeders from Jabuk, SA.

These ewe lambs are Apr/May 18’ drop, weigh 58kgs and found a buyer locally. SIL 1st cross ewes sold from $151 to $295, averaging $244, $30 up on last week. From Glenorchy, VIC a line of 200 SIL ewe lambs returned the top price.

These ewes joined to Poll Dorset rams, May/June 18’ drop, weigh 51kgs and will remain in VIC. From Binalong, NSW a line of 125 4-6 year old SIL ewes made $223. These ewes weigh 59kgs, have been joined to Poll Dorset rams and find themselves remaining locally.

To other breeds, where highlights saw a line of SIL pure Primeline ewes from Bombala, NSW return $300.

These ewes are 20-24 months, weigh 67kgs, are joined to Poll Dorset, Tradie and Hampshire Downs rams and will remain in NSW.

Travelling 1,400kms from St George, QLD to Mildura, VIC is a line of Dorper and white dorper future breeder ewe lambs. These lambs are Oct/Nov 18’ drop and weigh 31kgs.

Store lamb listings jumped this week with 8,603 head listed, an increase of 3,928. Demand from buyers remained with the category seeing a 93% clearance. Top prices included:

–          Aug/Sep 18, 34kg White Suffolk/Merino mixed sex store lambs from Culla, VIC sold for $131 or 389c/kg live

–          Jun/Oct 18, 42kg Australian White/White Dorper wether lambs from Morven, QLD sold for $146 or 348c/kg live

–          Aug/Sep 18, 58kg Poll Dorset/Coopworth x Merino mixed sex export lambs from Cressy, TAS sold for $229/hd or 395c

–          Jun/Aug 18’, 49kg Dorest/Composite and Coop/Merino cross mixed sex trade lambs from Nile, TAS or 388c/kg live.
