Key topics discussed at the workshops will include ewe management leading to joining and beyond.
Farmers wanting to improve ewe performance and lamb survival are encouraged to attend one of two workshops being hosted by Agriculture Victoria at Avoca and Edenhope this month.
The workshops, which are funded through BestWool/BestLamb and Australian Wool Innovation, will feature presentations from sheep specialists’ Dr Robert Suter and Tim Leeming, who will discuss how ewe management strategies can lead to better lamb survival.
Dr Suter, Senior Veterinary Officer with Agriculture Victoria, will discuss the symptoms, management and prevention of metabolic disorders such as hypocalcaemia, pregnancy toxaemia and acidosis. He will share his 40 years of experience in sheep health.
Dr Suter will be joined by South-West Victoria farmer and consultant Tim Leeming.
Mr Leeming and his wife Georgie run a self-replacing prime lamb flock and seed stock business, weaning over 10,000 lambs annually. A core focus of their business is animal welfare and sustainable land management. They have participated in many industry trials including the maternal ewe project.
Mr Leeming is an experienced and engaging deliverer of Lifetime Ewe Management, Lifting Lamb Survival, Bredwell Fedwell and BestWool/Best Lamb programs.

- Ewe management leading to joining and beyond
- Timing of weaning on time to allow recovery
- Choosing the right lambing time
- Key lamb survival guidelines and trigger points
- Identification and management of hypocalcaemia, pregnancy toxaemia and acidosis.
