Merino ewe lamb prices up $3 on last week

The top price was returned by a line of Grassy Creek and Grogansworth blood Apr/May 19’ drop future breeders, weighing 43kgs, from Bookham, NSW. Merino ewe hoggets (pictured) sold from $231 to $376, to average $293.

Top price was returned by a line of 20 – 22-month Poll Merino ewes from Coomandook, SA. These ewes weigh 65kgs and are SIL to White Suffolk rams.

Young Merino breeders (2-4 years) averaged $256, up $13, selling from $204 to $325. From Robertstown, SA a line of rising 4-year-old Pindari blood Poll Merino ewes, weighing 71kg and SIL to Poll Merino rams returned $242. Whilst from Linton, VIC a line of Pastora blood rising 3-year-old NSM ewes, weighing 50kgs, returned $204.

Proven breeders (4+ years) sold from $173 to $313, to average $254, up $30. From Howlong, NSW a line of Centre Plus blood, 5-6-year-old ewes, weighing 73kg and SIL to Poll Dorset rams returned the top price. From Collarenebri, NSW a line of rising 6-year-old Haddon Rig blood scanned empty ewes, weighing 55kgs returned $224.

Merino wether lambs averaged $155, selling from $117 to $192. From Yass, NSW a line of Kerin Poll and Tara Park blood May/Jun 19’ drop lambs, weighing 47kgs returned $181, and will travel across the border into Victoria.

The older offering of Merino wethers sold from $141 to $181, averaging $157. The top price was returned by a line of Terrick blood 22-25-month-old woolgrower wethers, weighing 57kg, from Hughenden, QLD.

First cross ewe lambs were up by $55, to average $289, selling from $220 to $425.

From Leigh Creek, VIC a line of Apr/May 19’ drop ewe lambs, weighing 61kg and SIL to White Suffolk rams returned the top price. Whilst from Wellington, NSW a line of Aug/Oct 19’ drop future breeders, weighing 29kgs returned $271, and will travel across the border to Rochester, VIC.

Prices for first cross ewes also increased, selling from $250 to $442, to averaging $363, up $27. From Wannon, VIC a line of rising 3-year-old ewes, weighing 65kgs and SIL to Poll Dorset rams returned $433. A line of scanned empty 18-19-month ewes from Cowra, NSW, weighing 55kg returned $251.

Other highlights include a line of SIL Dorper ewes returning $330. These ewes from Patchewollock, VIC are 2-5 years, weighing 68kgs, are SIL to White Suffolk rams and are heading to Walcha, NSW. Whilst from Harrow, VIC a line of Composite Aug/Sep 19’ drop future breeder ewe lambs, weighing 34kg returned $165.

This week the Tasmanian sheep sale saw an offering of 908 head of mixed sex lambs, with the sale achieving a 100% clearance for the second week running. The mixed sex offering sold from $144 to $189, to average $170.

From Bothwell, TAS a line of Sep/Oct 19’ drop 1st and 2nd cross White Suffolks lambs weighing 38kgs returned the top price.

Looking to the west this week where the Westcoast Wool & Livestock ewe and lamb sale saw SIL Merino ewes hotly contested by both local and interstate buyers.

A line of 18-20-month Merino ewes, weighing 69kgs and SIL to White Suffolk rams returned $227. Sale results also saw a line of 4-5-year-old Poll Merino station mated ewes, weighing 64kgs, return $149 and are travelling across the Nullarbor to a buyer in Victoria.
