Merino ewe lambs up $7 to top of $301

From Nyngan, NSW, A/c ‘Mudford Farming’ offered the top priced line of 11-12-month-old Leovale Merino blood ewes (pictured) weighing 52kgs with 1.5-2” skins. A/c ‘LA Genetics Trust’ at Broughton River Valley, SA, offered a run of future breeder ewe lambs which achieved the next top price of $282.

These 11-12-month-old Hamilton Run blood lambs weigh 53kgs and have 1-1.5” skins. Merino ewe hoggets sold from $140 to $293, averaging $222, easing $11 on last week.

From Bathurst, NSW, A/c ‘Kilbournie Pastoral’ offered the top priced line of mixed-age NSM ewes weighing 49kgs. These majority Roseville Park blood Merinos have 2.5-3” skins and will be heading west to Canowindra, NSW.

Young Merino breeders (2-4 years) sold from $144 to $282, averaging $223, down $60.

The top price was returned by a line of SIL ewes from Cootamundra, NSW, offered by A/c ‘Congou’. These 2.5-year-old 66kg ewes were SIL from 3-4 months to Merino rams. From Roma, QLD, A/c ‘CS & CJ Mitchell’ offered 3-4-year-old NSM ewes which sold for $248. Weighing 52kgs, these Haddon Rig blood ewes have 2-2.5” skins and will be heading south to Inverell, NSW.

Proven Merino breeders (4+ years) were in high demand achieving a 95% clearance selling from $174 to $331, averaging $247, easing $17. Rising 5-year-old SIL ewes from Brocklesby, NSW, offered by A/c ‘G.N. Severin Pty Ltd’ achieved the top price. These 88kg ewes are SIL to Poll Merino rams and 3-4.5 months in lamb.

Merino wether lambs achieved a strong clearance of 91% while prices eased $2 to average $156 selling from $134 to $182.

From Keith, SA, the top line was offered by A/c ‘Tolcairn’ with 400 wether lambs weighing 48kg. Aged 10-11-months and by Moorundie South blood, they will be crossing the border to Brooklyn, VIC.

Older Merino wethers were also popular with 100% clearance recorded for the 7,109 head offered. Also easing slightly in price, they sold from $120 to $192, down $3 to average $160.

The top price was returned by a line of trade wether hoggets from Cooma, NSW by A/c ‘DW & SJ Baines’ weighing 53kgs. These 19-20-month-old wethers are predominately Hazeldean blood with 3” skins.

First cross ewe lambs sold from $228 to $312, averaging $266, down $11 with a 95% clearance rate.

The top price went to a line of 10-11-month-old NSM ewe lambs from Walla Walla, NSW, offered by A/c ‘Bundaleer Merino Stud’. These lambs weigh 50kgs, have 1” skin on their back and will make their way to Cowra, NSW.

First cross ewes sold from $325 to $436, averaging $358 also down $55 on last week. The demand remained prevalent seeing 100% clearance across the category. From Billimari, NSW, the top price was offered by A/c ‘Bereni Pastoral’ with their line of 66kg 1-year-old SIL ewes with 2.5-3” skins, joined to Poll Dorset rams.

Looking to other breeds, a line of White Dorper mixed-age Station Mated ewes returned $375 from Swan Hill, VIC. From Marrar, NSW, a line of Australian White future breeder ewe lambs, Nov/Dec ’19 drop, sold for $351.

Looking to Western Australia, prices ranged from $140 to $286, averaging $201, easing $31 on last week.

Eastern demand remained strong with 4,577 head dispersing between SA and NSW. From Dandaragan, A/c ‘PA & AJ Negus’ achieved the top price with their offering of 608 SIL Merino ewes. Weighing 66kgs, these 2-year-old Cherlara blood ewes were joined to Merino rams.

Tasmanian sheep were once again in high demand with a 100% clearance for the second week running, although recorded a smaller offering of 1,333 head. Mixed sex lambs sold from $141 to $172, averaging $159.

The top price went to a line of 7-9-month-old second cross White Suffolk/BL/Mer mixed sex store lambs weighing 44kg with 1-1.5” skins offered by A/c ‘Red Hills’ from Deloraine.

Wethers sold from $110 to $140, averaging $129. From Pontville, A/c ‘Murrayfield’ offered the top priced line with 65kg Leahcim blood Merino wethers, making their way across the Bass to Finley, NSW.

Store lamb numbers eased with 10,361 head offered, a decrease of 1,974. Prices ranged from 387c to 543c, up 1c on last week. Highlights include:

– Sept/Oct ’19 drop – 31kg White Suffolk/Merino mixed sex store lambs from GRENFELL, New South Wales sold for $170 or 543c

– Sept/Oct ’19 drop – 31kg White Suffolk and Border Leicester/Merino mixed sex store lambs from WHITEFOORD, Tasmania sold for $164 or 527c

– Aug/Sept ’19 drop – 30kg Southdown/Composite mixed sex lambs from WILLAURA NORTH, Victoria sold for $152 or 502c

– Aug/Sept ’19 drop – 48kg Coolalee/Poll Merino mixed sex store lambs from GOONDIWINDI, Queensland sold for $206 or 431c

– Sept/Oct ’19 drop – 36kg Composite/Merino mixed sex lambs from NIMMITABEL, New South Wales sold for $175 or 483c
