Merino ewe lamb prices steady at $211 average

From Temora, NSW a line of Jun 19’ drop, Pastora blood ewe lambs, weighing 49kgs (pictured) with a 1 ½’ skin returned the top price. Whilst from Mintaro, SA a line of May/Jun 19’ drop, Leachim blood future breeders, weighing 48kgs with a 2 ½” skin returned $254.

Merino ewe hoggets sold from $165 to $350, averaging $266, up $8 on last week. The top price was returned by two lines of North Coree and Woodpark blood SIL Ewes from Tullamore, NSW.

These 2year old hoggets weigh 56kgs, with a 2” skin and are SIL to Poll Merino rams. From Nhill, VIC a line of Kolindale blood, 22-24 month old? scanned undetectable ewes, weighing 54kgs with a 2” skin, returned $260.

Young merino breeders (2-4 years) averaged $276, selling from $192 to $353, up $36 on last week.

From Yass, NSW a line of rising 3 year old Yarrawonga and Tallawong blood ewes, weighing 62kgs with a 3” skin, SIL to Poll Merino and Merino rams returned the top price. From Quilpie, QLD a line of rising 3 and 4 year old, Mumblebone blood station mated ewes, weighing 49kgs with a ¼” skin returned $265.

Proven merino breeders (4+ years) remained steady on last week selling from $160 to $292, to average $236.

The top price was returned by a line of 2-6 year old, Bundilla and Poll Boonoke blood SIL ewes from Harden, NSW. These ewes weigh 64kgs with a 1 ¼” skin and are SIL to Poll Dorset rams.

From Jamestown, SA a line of rising 5 to 7 year old, North Ashrose blood ewes, weighing 74kgs with a 1 ¾” skin and SIL to Poll Merino rams returned $251. Whilst from Cunnamulla, QLD a line of rising 7 year old Haddon Rig blood NSM ewes, weighing 62kgs with a 2 ¼” skin returned $187 and are heading over 1,000km south to Browns Plains, VIC.

Merino ewes with lambs at foot sold from $374 to $395, averaging $384. From Grenfell, NSW a line of Woodpark and Centre plus blood, 3-6 year old NSM ewes, weighing 68kgs with 2 ¼” skin and 2-9 week old LAF, sired by White Suffolk Rams, returned the top price.

Merino wether lambs averaged $153 selling from $122 to $190, remaining steady on last week. From Prairie, VIC a line of One Oak and Langdene blood Apr/May 19’ drop wethers, weighing 52kgs with a 2 ½” skin returned the top price. From Port Augusta, SA a line of Mourundie Park blood Jul/Aug 19’ drop wethers, weighing 40kgs with a ¼’ skin returned $155.

Merino wethers were down $7 on last week averaging $164,  selling from $150 to $189. From Benalla, VIC a line of Wurrook blood, 3 year old woolgrower wethers, weighing 66kgs with a 2 ¼’ skin returned the top price.

From Longreach, QLD a line of 3-4 year old, Pooginook blood woolgrower wethers, weighing 60kgs with a ¼’ skin returned $169 and will be travelling across the border to Forbes, NSW.

First cross ewe lambs averaged $315, selling from $259 to $370. The top price was returned by a line of 11-12 month old, BL/Mer ewe lambs weighing 49kgs, SIL to White Suffolk rams from Cootamundra, NSW. From Wellington, NSW a line of Sep/Oct 19’ drop, BL/Poll Mer ewe lambs weighing 56kgs sold for $349.

First cross ewes sold from $245 to $240, averaging $345. From Coolamon, NSW a line of 13-14 month old, BL/Mer ewes weighing 57kgs and SIL to Poll Dorset rams returned the top price. From Avenel, VIC a line of 3 year old BL/Mer ewes, weighing 71kgs and SIL to White Suffolk rams sold for $370.

First cross ewes with lambs at foot averaged $389, selling from $347 to $420. From Yass, NSW a line of 5 year old, BL/Mer ewes weighing 66kgs with 6-11 week old LAF sired by Morfield Poll Dorset rams returned the top price.

Looking to other breeds, highlights saw a line of 45-47 month old, Pure Australian White NSM ewes, weighing 75kgs with 8-10 week old LAF sired by Australian White rams from Gundagai, NSW sell for $516. Whilst from Orroroo, SA a line of Dohne Jul 19’ drop future breeder ewe lambs weighing 44kgs returned $225.

This week the listings from Western Australia saw 5,452 head offered. The Merino ewe lamb category again dominated the offering, averaging $199 and selling from $140 to $220.

From Kukerin, WA a line of East Mundella blood ewe lambs, May/Jun 19’ drop, weighing 54kgs with a ¼” skin returned the top price and are travelling 2,700km to Nhill, VIC. Other highlights from the sate saw a line of Jun/Jul 19’ drop Samm ewe lambs weighing 59kgs from Kukerin, WA return $260.

Looking to Tasmania this week a small offering of 488 head returned a 100% clearance. From Shefield, TAS a line of 2nd X White Suffolk mixed sex store lambs, Aug/Oct 19’ drop, weighing 36kg returned $148 or 411c. Whilst from Sorell, TAS a line of Southdown/Merino and Composite/Merino mixed sex lambs, Sep/Oct 19’ drop, weighing 34kg returned $125 or 368c.

Store lamb numbers this week totaled 4,268 head, down 1,857 head on last. Prices were up 5c, averaging 476c, selling from 387c to 646c. Highlights include;

– Oct/Nov 19’ drop – 30kg, 1st X Border Leicester/Merino mixed sex store lambs from BIGGA, New South Wales sold for $195.5 or 646c

– Mar/Apr 20’ drop – 27kg, 1st X White Suffolk/Merino mixed sex suckers from HAWKESDALE, Victoria sold for $167.5 or 639c

– Oct/Dec 19’ drop – 34kg, Dorper store wether lambs from MORVEN, Queensland sold for $173 or 513c

– Mar/Apr 20’ drop – 43kg, Australian White wether suckers from MANILDRA, New South Wales sold for $183.5 or 437c

– Aug/Sep 19’ drop – 46kg, White Suffolk/Merino mixed sex lambs from KALPURA South Australia sold for $181 or 414c

– Dec 19’ /Jan 20’ – 50kg, Dorper wether lambs from CUNUMULLA, Queensland sold for $192 or 387c
