Prices continue to trend upwards for Merino ewe lambs

A/c ‘Jigsaw Farms’ at Hensley Park, VIC offered the top priced lot with a run of 380 future breeder ewe lambs (pictured). Weighing 46kgs, these Aug/Sept ’19 drop lambs have 53mm skins with Jigsaw Farms blood.

Merino ewe hoggets were in high demand achieving an 81% clearance rate, selling between $185 and $320 to average $273, up $32.

From Bogan Gate, NSW, A/c ‘Overland’ secured the top price with their run of 280 ewes aged 14-18 months. These ewe hoggets weigh 61kgs, have 5mm skins and have Roseville Park blood.

Young Merino ewes (aged 2-4 years) sold with a 100% clearance among the 1,248 head offering. Selling from $175 to $341, this category averaged $229 which was back on last week by $20.

A/c ‘Redlands’ from Nyngan, NSW offered the top priced lot with a line of 106 SIL ewes weighing 85kgs. These 2-4-year-old ewes have 60mm skins, White River blood and are SIL to Border Leicester rams.

Proven Merino breeders (aged 4+ years) sold to a top of $330 and a low of $165, to average $212, easing $5 on last week.

This category achieved an 85% clearance rate with 7,201 head sold. A line of 178 SIL ewes from Dubbo, NSW offered by A/c ‘Yarrawonga’ secured the top price for the week. These 86kg ewes are 5 years old with 60mm skins and are SIL to Border Leicester rams.

Following the trend of strong clearance rates, Merino wether lambs achieved an 86% clearance, selling over 22,000 head between $109 and $165 to average $140, up $11.

A/c ‘Rosewood’ at Forbes, NSW offered a line of 650 Apr/May ’20 drop wether lambs which secured the top price for the category. These 49kg lambs have 60mm skins and Yarong blood and will head South to Bombala, NSW.

Merino wethers achieved a 98% clearance rate selling from $167 to $169 among the 2,975 head on offer.

A run of 2,400 woolgrower wethers secured the top price, sold as four lines of 600 head, offered by A/c ‘Langboyd’ at Brewarrina, NSW. These 2-year-old wethers weigh 60kgs, have 6mm skins and have Egelabra blood lines.

First cross ewe lambs sold from $252 to $357, averaging $297, up $3 on the previous week, with 6,616 head offered. A/c ‘Kelroan’ from Ariah Park, NSW offered the top priced lot with a line of 220 Apr/May ’20 drop ewe suckers. These lambs weigh 54kgs, have 55mm skins and will cross the border and travel to a Horsham, VIC.

First cross ewe hoggets achieved a 100% clearance rate among the 1,724 head offered, selling from $301 to $385, averaging $354, back $30 on last week. A/c ‘Whites’ from Euchareena, NSW secured the top price with 150 15-16-month-old future breeder ewe hoggets weighing 64kgs, with 25mm skins and will travel to Bathurst, NSW.

First cross ewes also achieved a 100% clearance rate with one lot of 270 head offered, selling for $276. This line of 4-year-old NSM ewes was offered by A/c ‘Penny Farming Trust’ at Areegra, VIC, weighing 83kgs and will head South to Beeac, VIC.

This week across the Bass Strait, vendor ‘Bowood Pastoral’ offered 2,000 ewe hoggets in lines of 200 head.

A great result for the vendor with all lots hitting the market early in the sale, selling between $236 and $240 averaging $238.

The ewe hoggets, aged 12-13-months-old are second cross Composite and Wairere Composite with Bowood, Symmons and Rannoch bloodlines. 1,000 head were 49kg ewes and the other 1,000 head were 52kgs, with all lines except one remaining local.

There were 29,971 store lambs on offer this week, selling to achieve a 93% clearance rate between $129 and $193, averaging $154, up $6. Highlights include:
– Jul/Aug ’20 drop, 36kg, Merino/White Suffolk mixed sex lambs from ELONG ELONG, New South Wales sold for $188 or 545c
– Jul/Aug ’20 drop, 38kg, Merino/Poll Dorset mixed sex suckers from YOUNG, New South Wales sold for $162 or 430c
– May/Jun ’20 drop, 34kg, White Dorper wether lambs from INVERELL, New South Wales sold for $154 or 467c
– Jul/Sept ’20 drop, 31kg, 2nd cross White Suffolk/Highlander mixed sex suckers from KINGSCOTE, South Australia sold for $134 or 447c
– Jun/Jul ’20 drop, 30kg, 2nd cross Dorset/Corriedale/Merino mixed sex suckers from GRITJURK, Victoria sold for $134 or 436c
– Jul/Aug ’20, 31kg, South Suffolk/Primeline mixed sex suckers from APSLEY, Victoria sold for $146 or 436c
