First cross ewes and lambs hit a record $561

Ewes-GunningEwes with lambs at foot were a big talking point this week, with another record broken at $561 for first cross ewes.

Overall, this  category registered a 91.6% clearance rate, with a total of 1,212 head sold.

Prices ranged from $256 to $561/head, to average $382/head.

The new record now stands at $561/head, achieved by a line of NSM 16-17-month-old Border Leicester/Merino ewes (pictured)  from Gunning NSW.

The ewes were assessed with a 76mm skin and had 1-6 week old White Suffolk  lambs at foot, averaging 16kg from vendors Tolldale Gunning.

Merino ewe lambs registered a clearance rate of 82.2% for the week, with 2,679 head sold.

Prices ranged between $75 – $252/head, to average $175/head. The top price for the week was out of Crookwell NSW, with a line of October drop Merino ewe lambs with a 20mm skin.

These ewes were Non Station Mated (NSM), weighing 44.1kg and were staying locally in the Crookwell area. Offered by vendors JP & NL McCormack.

Merino ewe hoggets recorded a clearance rate of 34.3% for the week. However the lower clearance rate for the weekly offering of 5,929 head didn’t stop high prices being set, ranging from $163 – $335/head, to average $255/head.

The top price originated out of Murringo NSW, for a line of 16-17-month-old NSM Merino ewe hoggets, with 12mm skin and weighing in at 57.6kg. Offered by “Powell Livestock Partnership”, these ewe hoggets are headed to Boorowa NSW.

Young Merino breeders (2-4 years) clearance rates dropped from last week, to 85% , with 7,372 head sold. Prices ranged from $173 to $286/head, to average $243/head.

The top price was found in Moculta SA, for a line of 2.4-2.5-year-old Merino ewes with 17mm skins, NSM and weighing 63kg. Offered by “Keynes Pastoral”, these ewes are headed to Kangaroo Island SA.

Proven Merino breeders (4+ years) ranged from $161 to $296/head, to average $213/head.

This category saw a 69.3% clearance rate for the week, with the top line hailing from Wellington NSW. These 2.2 – 5.2-year-old Merino NSM ewe, with 55mm jackets, were 70.6kg and headed north east to Ogunbil NSW. Well done to vendors “Uungula Pastoral Co”.

 

Merino wethers prices ranged from $102 to $165/head, to average $136/head, with the top price out of Inverell NSW. The 3 – 4.5-year-old Merino wethers, from Heather Brae Pastoral Co, were offered with 35mm skins and weighed 59.8kg.

First cross ewe lambs achieved a 78% clearance rate for the week, with 2,192 head sold.

Prices ranged from $193.50 to $372/head, to average $285/head. The top price from Trundle NSW, was for a line of 10-12 month-old. These NSM ewes tipped the scales at 60.4kg, with a 55mm skin and are heading to Blayney NSW. Well done to vendors “KC & BL Jones”.

First cross ewe hoggets range between $291 to $401/head this week, averaging $363/head. The top price was found in Ballan VIC, for a line of 16-18 month-old NSM, Border Leicester/Merino ewe  hoggets, with 22mm skins and weighing 72.5kg. Well done to vendors “Tregothnan Park”.

First cross ewes saw prices range between $237 to $290/head, averaging $260/head. The top price came out of Harrow VIC, with a line of 3.5-4.5-year-old NSM, Border Leicester/Merino ewes. From  “GA & RL Sambell”, the ewes tipping the scales at 77.1kg, with 70mm jackets.

– June/Aug 20’ drop, 36kg, Border Leicester/Merino mixed sex lambs from Wee Waa NSW, sold for $207/head, or 569c.

– Aug/Sep 20’ drop, 21.5kg, White Suffolk/ Border Leicester/Merino mixed sex lambs from Fox SA, sold for $121/head, or 563c.

– July/Oct 20’ drop, 25.5kg, White Suffolk/Composite mixed sex lambs from Bordertown SA, sold for $131/head, or 514c.

– July/Aug 20’ drop, 29kg, Poll Dorset/ Composite mixed sex lambs from Chatsworth VIC, sold for $147/head, or 506c.

– Aug/Sep 20’ drop, 29kg, Cashmore PD Terminal/Composite mix sex lambs from Simpson VIC, sold for $139/head, or 479c.
