First cross ewes with lambs skyrocket to a record $624

These first cross ewes and their lambs from Gunning made a new record top price of $624.

It was another big week for ewes with lambs at foot, with last week’s record being smashed by $63/head to top at a stellar $624.

There was an 85% clearance rate for the week, with a total of 1,282 head sold. Prices ranged between $200 and $624/head, to average $328/head – down $53 on last week. A/c “Tolldale Gunning” broke their own record from last week, hitting $624/head.

These 17-18 month-old NSM first cross ewes with lambs weigh 77kgs and will head to Crookwell NSW.

Merino ewe lambs averaged $164/head this week, down $38 week-on-week.

Prices ranged from $140 to $226/head, with a clearance of 80%. The top price was out of Bletchley SA, with a line of Mar 20’ drop Merino future breeders, who will cross the border to Wagga Wagga NSW. These ewes weighed 48kg, with 16mm skin and were offered by A/c “TA Frayne”.

Young Merino breeders (2-4 years) were in high demand this week, achieving an 81% clearance rate with 2,930 head sold.

Prices ranged between $189 and $330/head, to average $269/head, up $17 week-on-week. A/c “Glendemar Pastoral” from Marnoo VIC achieved one of the top prices with their line of NSM Merino ewes.

Weighing 67kgs with 4mm skin, these ewes are headed to Walcha NSW. A/c “Woolaroo Merino Stud” out of Stromlo also fetched the top price with their line of NSM Merino ewes, weighing in at 52kg, with 3mm skin making their way to Boorowa NSW.

Proven Merino breeders (4+ years) averaged $232/head this week, selling between $168 and $290/head with an overall clearance rate of 63%. “Woolaroo Merino Stud” achieved the top price with their line of 4.2-4.4 year-old NSM ewes, weighing 57kg with 3mm skin. These ewes will travel to Goulburn NSW.

Prices for Merino wether lambs remained steady this week, with an average of $135/head across the 14,000 head sold.

Prices ranged between $100 and $158/head. Top price for the week was achieved out of Gulargambone NSW, with a line of May/June 20’ drop Merino store lambs weighing 45kg.

These lambs are headed south to Holbrook NSW. Additionally, a line of May/June 20’ drop Poll Merino wether lambs out of Mount Pleasant SA, equalled the top price. These lambs weigh 49kgs and will venture across to Bordertown SA.

Merino wether prices were down slightly this week, to average $134/head – selling between $116 and $145/head. The top price for the week was out of Bingara NSW, with a line of three-year-old Merino weathers weighing 60kgs with 20mm skin. These weathers will make a 1,400km journey across the border to Murray Bridge SA.

First cross ewe lambs sold from $120 to $203/head this week, averaging $149/head, down $3/head on last week.

There was a clearance rate of 86%, with a total of 36,000 head sold. From Dubbo NSW, a line of Jun/Jul 20’ drop mixed sex lambs weighing 31kg returned the top price. Offered by A/c “Listmint Pty Ltd”, these lambs will make the journey to Orange NSW.

First cross ewe hogget prices softened this week, averaging $322/head, down $60/head. Prices ranged from $262 to $377/head, with a total of 1,202 head sold. The top price came out of Cowra NSW, with a line of 13-14 month-old scanned empty ewe hoggets. Offered by A/c “Jumbuck Trading”, these ewes weighed in at 55kgs with 10mm skin and will venture to Biala NSW.

First cross ewes registered a clearance of 86% for the week, with prices ranging between $220 and $391/head, to average $312/head, up $39 on last week.

The top price for the week came out of Crookwell NSW, with a line of two-year-old first cross ewes tipping the scales at 75kgs. Offered by A/c “K.Clune”, these ewes will stay in the local Crookwell area.

This week in Tasmania there were 2,899 head offered with a clearance rate of 59%. Prices ranged between $148 and $160/head, to average $152/head.  A/c “C Lyne & Son” out of Campbell Town achieved the top priced lot with their line of mixed sex 2nd cross suckers. Weighing 49kgs and with 35mm skin, these suckers are destined for Cressy TAS.

Store lamb offerings saw a decrease in listings this week, down 4,000 head, to 38,000 head in total. Prices recorded a decrease of 3c to average 405c/kg.

– Jul/Sept 20’ drop,29kg, Dorper/Dorper mixed sex shedding breed lambs from MORVEN, QLD, sold for $155/head, or 532c.

– Aug/Sept 20’ drop, 26kg, Composite/White Suffolk mixed sex lambs from CASTERTON, VIC, sold for $138, or 520c.

– Aug 20’ drop, 27kg, Merino/ White Suffolk mixed sex lambs from HENTY, NSW, sold for $145/head, or 517c.

– Sept 20’ drop, 29kg, Merino/Poll Dorset mixed sex lambs from MURRAY BRIDGE, SA, sold for $142, or 489c.
