First cross ewes and White Suffolk lambs in demand at $505

The ewes (pictured) were aged 16 to 17 months, weighed 74kg live, were April shorn and were offered by Tolldale, Gunning, NSW.

They were sired by Retallack and Gleneith Border Leicester rams and the lambs were by White Suffolk rams.

First cross ewes sold from $220 to $327/head, averaging $279/head – down $33/head on last week.

The top price was returned by a line of 15-28 month-old NSM ewes, weighing 70kgs from Nyngan NSW. From Addington VIC, a line of 42-46 month-old NSM ewes, weighing 78kgs returned $306/head and are headed north into NSW.

Merino ewe lambs averaged $217/head, selling from $130 to $326/head, up $53/head on last week.

Out of Balranald NSW, a line of The Yanko blood, one-year-old ewe lambs, weighing 64kg with a 60mm skin returned the top price.

From Kingston SA, a line of May/Jun 20’ drop Rosebank and Pepperwell blood future breeder ewe lambs, weighing 39kgs with a 8mm skin, returned $184/head and are headed across the border to VIC.

Merino ewe hoggets sold from $130 to $314/head, averaging $238/head – down $33/head on last week.

The top price was returned by a line of Bella Lana Blood scanned empty Merinos from Dunedoo NSW, with the 16-17 month-old ewes, weighing 60kgs with a 75mm skin.

Young Merino breeders (2-4 years) averaged $248/head, selling from $202 to $306/head, down $48/head on last week.

From Caniambo VIC, a line of rising three-year-old Roseville Park Merino blood, NSM ewes weighing 66kgs with a 5mm skin returned the top price. From Tampu WA, a rising three and four-year-old Calcalling blood NSM ewes, weighing 66kgs with a 10mm skin returned $225/head and are headed to South Australia.

Proven Merino breeders (4+ years) sold from $166 to $344/head, averaging $223/head – down $9/head on last week.

The top price was returned by a line of 2-6 year-old Woolkabin ewes from Bathurst NSW – weighing 73kgs with a 5mm skin and LAF sired by Border Leicester rams. From Cunnamulla QLD, a line of Merryville/Nerstane blood five-year-old ewes, weighing 45kgs with a 50mm skin, returned $214/head and are headed south to NSW.

Merino wether lambs averaged $126/head, selling from $88 to $164/head, up $29/head.

From Nhill VIC, a line of White River blood Apr/Jun drop wether lambs, weighing 53kgs with a 18mm skin returned the top price. A line of Jul/Aug 20’ drop Seymore Park blood wether lambs from Darkan WA, weighing 39kgs with a 50mm skin, returned $121/head.

Merino wethers sold from $120 to $176/head, averaging $145/head – up $11/head on the previous week. The top price was returned by a line of Goolgumla blood 18-19 month-old wethers from Euroa VIC, weighing 63kgs with a 38mm skin.

First cross ewe lambs averaged $286/head, selling from $215 to $372/head, up $137/head on last week.

From Mendooran NSW, a line of Mar 20’ drop future breeder ewe lambs weighing 58kgs returned the top price. From Kaniva VIC, a line of Apr/May 20’ drop future breeder ewe lambs, weighing 46kgs returned $280/head.

Tasmania saw a smaller offering of only 360 head this week, back from the 2,899 head last week – with a steady sale resulting in both lots selling after auction.

A line of 150, 76kg Corriedale ewes aged 6-7 years made $180/head. These ewes had 58mm skins and will remain on the island. A line of 210 July/August drop mixed sex suckers made $140/head. These Southdown cross suckers weighed 39kgs and will also remain local.

The store lamb offering registered an increase in listings this week, up 9,972 head, to total 47,972 head. Clearances for the category remained strong despite the increased offering, achieving 86%. Prices averaged 401c/kg, selling from 284c to 526c/kg – back 4c on last week. Highlights included.

–        Aug/Sep 20’ drop, 31kg, composite/Merino mixed sex store lambs from COOLAH, NSW, sold for $150/head, or 526c/kg.

–        Aug/Sep 20’ drop, 27kg, White Suffolk/Merino and Coolalee/Merino mixed sex lambs from GOONDIWINDI, QLD sold for $128/head, or 498c/kg.

–        Aug/Sep 20’ drop, 29kg, composite mixed sex store lambs from ARARAT, VIC, sold for $134/head, or 494c/kg.

–        Aug/Sep 20’ drop, 30kg, Primeline store wether lambs from WINCHELSEA, VIC sold for $133/head, or 452c/kg.

–        Jul/Aug 20’ drop, 44kg, White Suffolk/Poll Merino store wether lambs from KEITH, SA sold for $154/head, or 358c/kg.

–        May/Jun 20’ drop, 44kg, SAMM/Merino mixed sex lambs from, WILLIAMS, WA sold for $120/head, or 284c/kg.
