Demand continues for ewes and lambs topping at $400

The top price was achieved by a line of Australian White/White Dorper station mated ewes (pictured) with LAF from Morven, QLD. The ewes are 1 to 5 years old, weigh 56kgs and their LAF are 2-20 weeks old and average 32kgs.

Merino ewe lambs eased last week to average $207/head, down $10/head, selling between $147 and $251/head on AuctionsPlus.

From Forbes, NSW a line of 730 Merino ewe lambs, split evenly into two lots, topped the category.

The future breeders of Seymour Park bloodlines are Apr/May 20’ drop, weigh 45kgs with a 10mm skin and will travel south to Wagga Wagga, NSW.

From Alawoona, SA, a line of 400 Merino ewe lambs of Lines Gum Hill bloodlines, Apr/May 20’ drop, weighing 44kgs with a 20mm skin, returned $250/head.

Merino ewe hoggets sold between $180 and $302/head to average $247/head, $9/head dearer than last week.

The top price was achieved by a line of Kiandra blood, non-station mated (NSM) ewe hoggets, 19 to 20 months old, weighing 73kgs with a 10mm skin from Wudinna, SA.

Young merino breeders (2-4 years) were priced from $159 to $313/head, averaging $257/head, up $9/head. Out of Nareen, VIC a line of 430 rising three year old ewes split into two lots topped the category.

The Barrama blood ewes weigh 61kgs, have a 16 mm skin and will travel to Horsham, VIC. Across the border in Minnipa, SA a line of 1.5 to 3.5 year old Kiandra blood ewes, weighing 70kgs, returned $290/head.

Proven Merino breeders (4+ years) returned an average of $203/head, selling from $124 to $271/head, back $20/head from last week. A line of scanned in lamb (SIL) ewes from Darbys Falls, NSW secured the top price.

The ewes are rising 6 and 7 years old, weigh 67kgs, have a 70mm skin and are SIL to Border Leicester rams. From Forbes, a line of 435 NSM ewes, 2.5-4.5 years old, weighing 70kgs, with 25mm skin retuned $270.

Merino wether lambs averaged $126/head, firm on last week, selling between $90 and $152/head. From Nhill, VIC, a line of 330 Poll Merino wether lambs topped the category.

The Ashrose blood lambs are Apr/May 20’ drop, weigh 46kgs, have a 15mm skin and will cross the border to Coleambally, NSW.

Merino wethers sold from $135 to $172/head, averaging $147/head, $2/head dearer than last week. The top price hailed from Ararat, VIC as a line of 14 to 15 month old wethers, weighing 60kgs with a 55mm skin, sold for $172.

First cross ewe lambs averaged $243/head, selling between $144 and $300/head, back $43/head. From Cowra, NSW, a line of 200 Border Leicester/Merino ewe lambs topped the category.

The future breeders are Jul/Aug 20’ drop, weigh 44kgs, have an 8mm skin and will head to Woodstock, NSW.

First cross ewes sold between $170 and $354/head, averaging $271/head, down $8/head on last week.

The top price was secured by a line of NSM ewes from Molka, VIC. The Golden Wattle blood ewes are rising three year old’s, weigh 71kgs, have a 25mm skin and will cross the border to Mt Gambier, SA.

Ewes with lambs at foot (LAF) sold from $240 to $400/head, to average $350/head, up $2/head.

Tasmania saw a bigger sale of 1,303 head on the back of a slim offering of 360 head last week. Demand was strong and 100% clearance was achieved.

Out of Cressy, TAS a line of 80 future breeder Coopworth ewe hoggets topped the sale, returning $308/head. The Palmerston blood ewes are 15 to 16 months old, weigh 57kgs and have a 5mm skin.

Store lambs were the largest category on offer despite being less than last week, with 43,431 head listed. Clearance remained firm on last week, achieving 85% and prices improved 9c as store lambs averaged 410c/kg, selling from 331c to 704c/kg. Highlights include:

– Jul/Oct 20’ drop, 24kg, White Suffolk/Merino mixed sex suckers from DUBBO, NSW sold for $127/head or 527c/kg

– Aug/Sept 20’ drop, 26kg, Tradie/Primeline mixes sex lambs from OMBERSLEY, VIC sold for $127/head or 490c/kg

– Jul/Aug 20’ drop, 33kg, Dorset South Down/Border Leicester/Merino mixed sex lambs from RUTHERGLEN, VIC sold for $156/head or 476c/kg

– Aug/Sept 20’ drop, 30kg, Poll Dorset/Composite mixed sex lambs from EVERSLEY, VIC sold for $138/head or 463c/kg

– Jul/Aug 20’ drop, 32kg, White Suffolk/Merino wether lambs from WELLINGTON, NSW sold for $146/head or 461c/kg

– Jul/Aug 20’ drop, 32kg, Dorset/merino mixed sex suckers from TOORAWEENAH, NSW sold for $141/head or 448c/kg
