Strong trends in wool market for 2021

Wool-balesPhysical auctions continued with strong trends for the second trading week of 2021. The AWEX Eastern Market Indicator was up 18c on Wednesday and rose a further 12c on Thursday to close out the week at 1202c/kg, or 934c/kg in US dollar terms.

The renewed confidence, seen prior to the break, was sustained as increased market demand and buyer competition strengthened the market.

Solid buyer demand trended across all markets with both northern selling centres closing the week up, with Melbourne experiencing the largest increase, up 33c to close at 1167c/kg.

Online Offer Board Results

The AuctionsPlus online offer board strengthened this week selling 1,977 bales for the period. 364 bales of 17µ micron wool sold up to 1620c/kg greasy or 2025c/kg dry and 15µ micron wool sold to a top of 1965c/kg greasy or 2703c/kg dry.

The top price online was a lot offered by Beecher Wool Services and was “SG & AEB” branded. This lot was 15µ micron Merino Fleece AAAMWNS wool which sold for 1965c/kg greasy or 2703c/kg dry with 0.3% vegetable matter and is 104mm in length.
