Trailblazers competition for young innovators in sheep, lamb and wool industries

LambEx has teamed up with Coles to launch the LambEx Coles Trailblazers competition for young innovators in the sheep, lamb and wool industries.

The LambEx Coles Trailblazers competition (formerly ‘Young Guns for the LambEx stalwarts) recognises and encourages young and upcoming industry professionals, producers, scientists and students to consider a future or ongoing career in the Australian sheep, lamb or wool industry.

The competition enables young Trailblazers, aged 16 to 30, to demonstrate how they as innovators will make a difference to the industry.

‘Trailblazers’ of the Australian sheep, lamb and wool industry are invited to pitch their idea, technology or innovation that will make a difference to and improve the sustainability of the sector.

The pitch can cover any aspect – big or small – of the sheep, lamb or wool supply chain including on-farm, off-farm (transport, processing, retail, export etc) or the social and cultural perceptions of the industry.

The Trailblazers competition is designed to recognise young thought leaders & innovators and encourage those entering careers in sheep/lamb supply chain, or career progression for those already in industry.

Applications for the LambEx Coles Trailblazer competition are now open with full details and eligibility criteria available at Trailblazers Application Pack.

Entry is by way of written submission combined with a 30-sec video pitch and information about your involvement and role with Australia’s sheep, lamb and wool industry.

Finalists will be required to ‘pitch’ their innovative idea to an experienced panel at LambEx 2024 with Grand finalists presenting to the full conference delegation before the Trailblazers winner will be announced at the LambEx Grandslamb Dinner on Thursday 8 August 2024.

The LambEx Coles Trailblazer competition offers the opportunity for diversity across age and occupation with three categories including an open and overall ‘Trailblazer’ winner, a Junior Trailblazer winner and People’s Choice by popular vote.

LambEx Chair Jason Schulz said ‘LambEx is distinctive in the fact that it is the only industry forum that incorporates and encompasses the entire supply chain for the sheep, lamb and wool industry. And we are particularly keen to foster innovative new talent within the industry and thanks to the support of Coles, the Trailblazers competition which is launched today, will achieve that aim.’
