Glendan Park Knockout K160 had the opposition down for the count as he stormed through the classes to take out the supreme exhibit at the 2016 Herefords Australia National Show at Wodonga.
The 22-month-old 918kg bull was exhibited by Alvio Trovatello, Glendan Park Herefords, Kyneton, Vic, to junior and grand champion Hereford bull, and supreme whiteface exhibit.
A son of Warringa Google G23 and out of a Cootharaba Magnum female, Knockout scanned with a raw eye muscle area of 126sqcm, 20mm of rump fat, 11mm of rib fat and had a scrotal circumference of 40cm.
On BREEDPLAN, the bull has a birthweight of +6.7kg, 600 day weight of +83kg, carcass weight of +50kg, EMA of +4.5sqcm and intramuscular fat percentage of +0.7.
He was a standout bull among a line up of 170 for National judge Peter Collins, Tennyson, Vic.
“Wow, this bull is something really special and is getting close to where we want to be,’’ Mr Collins said.
“He parades well, has length, a sirey outlook and great spine.’’
Mr Collins, of Merrigrange Angus, drew wide praise from vendors and spectators for his efficient and consistent judging.
He achieved a personal goal of judging at the Hereford National – one of the biggest line-ups of British bred bulls in the nation.
Regarded as one of the biggest British bred shows in the nation, the event was held at the Wodonga showground on May 11, drawing 51 vendors from four states.
Glendan Park principal Alvio Trovatello said the National was a showring debut for Knockout.
“Both bulls are sired by Warringa Google which I bought from Bill Kee,’’ he said.
“I’m happy with the type the sire is breeding – I have sisters at home calving as two year olds and they will be good uddered and strong maternally.’’
Knockout defeated the junior and grand champion Hereford bull, Kaludah Archie K221, exhibited by Malcolm and Pam Shelley, Kaludah Herefords, Cooma, NSW.
Boasting the largest team in the shed of 20 bulls, the Shelleys were named as the most successful Hereford exhibitor.
Sired by Hunter Lakes Golliath G105 and out of Burando X128 Duchess B018, the 18-month-old bull weighed 902kg, and scanned with an eye muscle area of 126sqcm, 17mm on the rump, 12mm on the rib and a scrotal of 40cm.
Mr Collins described the bull as an “exceptional young calf with tremendous length and thickness’’.
“He is a bull with power and a huge eye muscle area – one hell of a bull calf,’’ he said.
Glendan Park also triumphed with a second Google son, Glendan Park Kinetic K004, taking out senior champion Hereford bull.
The 26-month-old weighed 1062kg and scanned with an eye muscle area of 144sqcm, 20mm of rump fat and 13mm on the rib.
Burrawang Herefords, Forbes, NSW, exhibited the reserve senior champion Hereford bull, RH Klassic, a son of Charnock Jackal.
The reserve junior champion Hereford bull, Kymarney Domino K010, had stood second in his class to the supreme exhibit, and was exhibited by Scott and Kym Lewington, Kymarney stud, Uranquinty, NSW.
The Allendale Waterhouse D1 son, Days Fabulous K173, was exhibited by Lachy and Lou Day, Days Whiteface, Bordertown, SA, to reserve junior champion Poll Hereford bull.
The 2016 Sydney Royal Interbreed Champion bull, Minlacowie Jubilant J123, dominated his class to take the senior champion Poll Hereford bull.
Judge Peter Collins described Jubilant as the “most complete bull showing cleanness, thickness and mobility’’.
“He has everything I want in a bull – a beautifully put together young sire,’’ Mr Collins said.
The 1058kg bull scanned with an eye muscle area of 140sqcm, 19mm on the rump, 13mm on the rib and with a 40cm scrotal circumference.
In reserve was a son of the $90,000 Days Calibre G74, Days Wizard K5, exhibited by the most successful Poll Hereford exhibitors, Lachy and Lou Day.
Wizard was rated as an AAA bull on BREEDPLAN growth, maternal and carcase traits.
The AAA rating was applied on a voluntary basis and is based on birthweight, 600 day weight, milk, scrotal, eye muscle area and intramuscular fat percentage estimated breeding values.
