With the current strong demand for Shorthorn bulls this Autumn, don’t overlook the Shorthorn females on offer at the 2016 Shorthorn National Show and Sale.
A total of 13 Shorthorn “L” heifers are on offer at this years event and represent some of the best Shorthorn registered heifers on offer, from some of Australia’s leading Shorthorn herds.
Demand for quality Shorthorn bulls continues to increase with Shorthorn cattle achieving significant premiums in the commercial market.
Bull sales this Autumn have so far seen an increase in volumes sold of 20% on 2015 results with a total clearance of 97% and an increase in average value of 29%.
This is contributing to renewed demand for quality Shorthorn females with new stud breeders looking to add quality to their emerging herds and existing breeders looking to build up numbers or upgrade when possible.
At the recent Genomix Live Biddng auction in Toowoomba, Live Bidding co-principal, Johnny Arkins said the “Bidding on the Live Bidding platform lit up like a Christmas tree when the Shorthorns were on the spotlight.”
Shorthorn were one of the few breeds to achieve a total clearance at the genetics auction.
With existing Shorthorn seedstock herds looking to retain females to build up numbers after several trying seasons, there will be a limited number of heifers available of this quality.
