Light lambs up 4c/kg and mutton indicator remains firm

  • Merino lambs gained 2¢, on 566¢/kg cwt
  • Light lambs were up 4¢, to 588¢/kg cwt
  • Trade lambs were up 1¢, to 593¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy lambs were back 2¢, at 603¢/kg cwt
  • The mutton indicator held firm at 385¢/kg cwt

Lamb numbers at Wagga increased 5% week-on-week, yarding 41,850 head.

As numbers continued to lift, quality over most categories eased, with well finished supplementary fed trade and heavy weight lines in good supply.

The same weight categories made up the majority of the offering, with all the usual buyers operating in a slightly cheaper market.

Mutton throughput increased 18%, to 10,750 head. Quality was good, with heavy weight sheep in longer skins resulting in strong competition.

  • Light weight 2 score old lambs to processors eased 10¢, at 636¢/kg cwt
  • Trade weight 3 score old lambs averaged 600¢, back 12¢/kg cwt
  • Heavy weight 4 score old lambs slipped 18¢, averaging 595¢/kg cwt
  • Extra heavy weight 4 score old lambs were back 3¢, on 606¢/kg cwt
  • Medium weight 3 score Merino ewes averaged 410¢, back 9¢/kg cwt
