Beef cattle assessment course to be hosted by Tocal

The program covers a variety of topics including meat yield, quality and performance in steers, breeding technology and practical assessment of breeding stock.

Registrations are now open for the popular Beef Cattle Assessment Course held at Tocal Agricultural College at Paterson NSW on 26 – 28 September 2016.

This years’ course will have feature facilitators including Bob Dent, well-known beef cattle extension expert who has worked with NSW DPI and Angus Australia and local cattle producer James Laurie from Moppy near Gloucester and Stephen Chase of Trangie.

This annual course is offered by the New England Angus Breeders Group and is open to all beef enthusiast regardless of breed affiliations.  It utilises both Bos Taurus and Bos Indicus breeds and their crosses.

The program covers a variety of topics including meat yield, quality and performance in steers, breeding technology and practical assessment of breeding stock.

It opens with discussion on cattle markets and the requirements in producing cattle for varying markets, identifying muscle and fat in cattle, growth and development, judging exercises, animal structure, female selection, bull selection and soundness and understanding and utilising Breedplan.

Live-in registrations cost $528.00.  All meals and accommodation is included.
