Store and slaughter market stars align but where to from here?

The last few months have seen records broken across most grades of store and slaughter markets.

A number of contributing factors have led to this aligning of the star’s storyline.

Namely a rapid turnaround in seasonal conditions, retention of stock post drought, combined with a traditional winter shortage of suitable feeder and slaughter numbers.

This purple patch may well be remembered fondly for years to come as the point where the elevation of beef prices achieved a new standing level.

Many producers may well be asking where to from here for the cattle market? As it is now basically wet from southern Victoria to Central Queensland and everywhere in between, there is no doubt that a record spring lays around the corner!

Time will tell what unveils, however processors and feed lotters are paying at the moment due to the winter shortage and therefore any opportunity to drag back rates once the warm weather appears they will do so.

I can hear some of you saying ‘there are not the cattle about!’ The question is whether or not the cattle hit the market in an orderly fashion or they come in a hurry. I believe there will be enough cattle around come mid spring, therefore it may pay to keep an eye on weight gains over the coming weeks if you wish to capitalise on the very strong rates available.

The system has been achieving some amazing results over the last few months. Keep an eye out for a few new initiatives, an exciting one is the new Assessor Rating module.

This will allow buyers to provide constructive feedback on performance and accuracy of lots delivered, ensuring that all assessors have the opportunity to learn and grow.

Auctions Plus has decided to take this step and released the first stage of the reciprocal rating platform, this will further enhance the system and hopefully bring buyers and sellers closer together.

The Targeted Feeder Sales have been well received, watch for the following dates as we approach the Spring selling period. These sales are open to all feeder types for both steers and heifers. Call us to discuss.
