Shorthorn wins best individual carcass in Beef Challenge

Shorthorn-8Manchee Ag’s, Yamburgan Shorthorns have added another feedlot trial title to a list of over 50 wins in  years of competitions.

John Manchee enters steers into relevant trials as a way of benchmarking the herds performance against the best in the Australian beef industry, however with the success the herd has had, it may be time to look for even greater measures.

Following on from their record breaking sale which saw 100 bulls sell to a new Shorthorn breed record average and the first Shorthorn sale to break the million dollar mark, a steer entered by Manchee Ag in the 2016 RAS Beef Challenge has taken out the best individual carcass award for the Domestic trade 70 day category.

Once considered a difficult market for Shorthorn cattle, Shorthorn breeders have gained tremendous ground in ensuring that their cattle comply consistently for this extremely important market segment. Yamburgan Shorthorns pride themselves on a paddock to plate approach to their genetic base with cattle that suit a wide cross section of markets as evidenced by their carcass and steer trial success.

As a commercially-focussed feedlot competition, the annual Sydney Royal Beef Challenge is unique. It represents all stages of the process including live assessment, carcase judging, profitability and eating quality, plus all animals entered in the pen or ‘lot’ (six animals in total) are included in the results. Exhibitors can enter two classes – 70-day Domestic and 100-day Export.

The Sydney Royal Beef Challenge is held at Wilga Feedlot, Bellata.
