Farmers urged to report flood damage

floods-in-saFarmers are urged to report flood damage as it happens, with the joint animals and agriculture control centre expecting many are waiting to see the full extent of the damage before calling.

Although nearly 300 reports have been received to date in Central West NSW, Local Land Services and the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) believe many more farmers have been impacted.

There has been significant damage in the Central West and accurate community reporting is needed to support the agricultural sector, said Central West Incident Controller Jamie Maddocks.

“Through aerial surveys and modelling, we expect many farmers are yet to report their damage,” Mr Maddocks said.

“When we’ve talked to people in the field, we’ve found a lot of people are waiting to see the full extent of the damage before making a report.

“Letting us know with early estimates is essential to build an accurate picture of what is happening on the ground—report early and update us later as you know more.”

Farmers are encouraged to call 1300 795 299, email emergency.centralwest@lls.nsw.gov.au or contact their nearest Local Land Services office to report agricultural losses including fencing, crops and stranded, injured or deceased livestock.

Flood damage reports are an essential part of understanding the full impact of the floods on the primary industries sector.

The joint animals and agriculture control centre is also warning graziers of the animal health issues following flooding.

“There are a number of animal health issues that come with floods and inundation, including feet, skin, worms and pasture quality,” Mr Maddocks said.
