Shorthorns win interbreed at Perth Royal Show

shorthorn-perthShorthorns have continued their success at Perth Royal Show, taking out Senior Champion Bull and Junior Champion Female in the Perth Interbreed judging.

Shorthorn Youth member, Jai Thomas, fresh off winning 3 of the 4 Champion classes in the Shorthorn judging, has won the prestigious titles in this years competition.

Senior Champion Interbreed Bull was JT Country Life Ketut K03, a moderate, thick, deep red ET son of Sprys Patent Ace G38 and from the Sprys Legends Marglory Y069 donor. Ketut K03 is a 3/4 brother to the $28,000 Sprys Double Barrel H155, the top selling bull at the Sprys 2014 annual sale, purchased by the Loane family, Dunroan Shorthorns, Tasmania.

Junior Champion Interbreed female was JT Country Life Legend L04, a roan Waukaru Patent 8161 daughter from the Sprys EXT Annie D063 donor dam.

In Tuesdays Shorthorn judging, judge Erica Halliday, Walcha, NSW described the Senior Champion female as “the kind of cow I would just love to bring home to my herd.” The 2 year old, Crathes Marrington K10, is a daughter of Sprys Advancer A114 from the Crathes Marrington E19 dam and presented with an excellent calf at side. Crathes Marrington K10 was exhibited by new owner, Jai Thomas, JT Country Life Shorthorns.

The Junior Bull was won by Crathes LennonL60, exhibited by Crathes principal, Phil Burnett. A son of Crathes Gatling, the sire of the $7,000 Black Dog Ride charity steer, and out of the Crathes Tessa G74 dam, the judging was an outstanding display of the quality of the Shorthorn breed in Western Australia.
