Barry Hehir, Leeton, thanks John Evans, Coleslea Dohnes, for the donation towards his family’s relief fund.

The proceeds of a ram auctioned by a Riverina Dohne stud has gone towards funds for a Leeton farming family who tragically lost their son in a house fire.

John Evans, Coleslea Dohnes, Leeton, donated the purchase price of $1700 from the ram at his on-property sale on September 23, following the death of Sam Hehir, 22, in a farm house fire at Leeton on September 8.

Mr Evans said woolgrowers, the Hehir Brothers, had been long time friends and clients.

“Coleslea Dohnes offered a high indexing ram with high body weight, large muscle and above average wool figures with the proceeds of this animal donated to the appeal,’’ he said.

“The ram was purchased by long term clients DS & JE McKenzie, of Barellan.’’

The ninth annual on-property sale resulted in 37 rams selling from the 40 offered to average $1222.

Volume buyers on the day were long time clients, Mark and Kerri Quilter, Quilter Nominees, of Sandigo, taking home 10 rams.

The top price ram went to Shields Partnership, Corobimilla, for $2500 – they also purchased a further three rams for an average of $1600.
