albury-floodsFarmers should continue to move stock to higher ground as the flooding situation continues in the Murray region, according to Murray Local Land Services.

Areas of current flooding concern continue to be the Tuppal and Bullatale Creeks between Tocumwal and Deniliquin where extensive flooding is occurring.

The area of major concern is the Edward and Wakool River systems west of Deniliquin and Billabong and Yanco Creek systems north of Deniliquin.

The State Emergency Service is coordinating the flood response, with Local Land Services playing a supporting role in looking after animal welfare, in close cooperation with NSW Department of Primary Industries.

Murray Local Land Services has established a local control centre in Deniliquin. The local control centre will continue to support the farming community through the joint Local Land Services and NSW DPI response.

Incident controller, Geoff Corboy, said it was important for farmers to move stock to higher ground and report flood damage to Local Land Services as it happens.

“Because of an already saturated catchment, this flooding event is expected to continue for the next month in the Deniliquin-Wakool-Moulamein area of southern NSW,” he said.

“Stock owners in this area are urged to move stock to higher ground or an alternative property, if available.”

Mr Corboy warned that graziers may face also animal health issues following the flooding.

“There are a number of animal health issues that comes with floods and inundation, including damage to feet and skin caused by inundation and pasture quality,” he said.
