Hereford heifers sell to $1820 and cows to $3100

BairnsdaleHerefords have continued to track well at sales last week, topping the weaner steer and female pens at Bairnsdale, unjoined heifers selling on-line to $1820 and cows to $3100.

At Bairnsdale, in Victoria’s Gippsland, Hereford steers weighing 357kg topped the weaner pens at $1480 or 415c/kg, on Friday, October 14.

Purebred weaners weighing under 200kg sold to 480c/kg or $1080, and those weighing 280-330kg, topped at 488c/kg or $1390.

Heavier steers, 330kg plus, sold for 415c/kg or $1480, according to Meat & Livestock Australia’s national livestock reporting service.

In the yearling steers, Black Baldies under 330kg fetched 428c/kg or $1220 and Herefords topped at 446c/kg or $1400.

Heavier Black Baldy steers, 330-400kg, topped at 438c/kg or $1480 and Herefords at 406c/kg.

Black Baldy steers, 400kg plus, sold at 333c/kg or $1500 and purebred steers, 403c/kg or $1700.

Yearling Hereford heifers, 330kg or less, topped at 427c/kg or $1110, and the Black Baldies at 433c/kg or $1090.

Demand was strong in the breeder pens, with Hereford cows and calves, under two months, selling to the market top of $2220.

Hereford cows with calves, two to four months, topped at $1750 and the Black Baldy cows at $1800.

Hereford feeder steers, 320-400kg, fetched 360c/kg or $1430 while purebred feeder heifers, same weight, sold to 339c/kg or $1280 and Black Baldies at 350c/kg or $1300.

Also on Friday, joinable Hereford heifers sold for $1820 or 423c/kg on AuctionsPlus.

The heifers, aged 12-14 months, weighed 430kg and were from Cootamundra, NSW.

At the Central Tablelands Livestock Exchange at Carcoar, NSW, a pen of 18 first calf Hereford cows with calves, two to four months, topped the yarding at $3100 on Friday.

Hereford weaner steers, under 200kg, sold to 457c/kg and Black Baldy yearling heifers, 330-400kg, topped the category on $1400 or 366c/kg.

Black Baldy cows with calves, under two months, sold to $2075 and lightweight Hereford cows with calves, two to four months, made $2550.
