A sheep bench marking program is to be established in conjunction with John Francis form Holmes and Sackett in an area between Corowa to Lockhart, NSW.
Funding has been organised from Local Land Services with about a dozen producers needed.
Wool grower Angus MacNeil, of Rand, said the idea was to start it early next year.
“It would seem with the current situation of the sheep industry we need to make sure we are maximising the opportunities it presents and we can learn as much from our peers as anyone,” he said.
“It is the first time in my 50 plus year of farming a bare shorn merino flock ewe has been worth more than a tonne of wheat.”
