Belmore Shorthorns have posted their best ever average and a new Belmore record top price of $42,000 at their annual 2017 Shorthorn Bull Sale.
The South East corner of South Australia looks a picture, with one of the best autumn breaks in living memory, only adding fuel to an already hot beef cattle market.
Top priced bull at this years sale was lot 9, Belmore Oregon L35, a 24 month old roan son of Windsor Northern Cedar and from the Belmore Margo H274 dam, L35 broke the previous Belmore top priced bull when he sold for $42,000 to the Royalla Shorthorn Stud, Yeoval, NSW, after spirited bidding from competing stud buyers.
Belmore Oregon L35 became only the 5th bull this season of any breed to sell for $42,000 or more.
In total 37 Shorthorn bulls sold to average $8,432, with bulls heading to 4 states at the conclusion of the sale.
Volume buyer was Newlyn Pty Ltd, who purchased 6 bulls to a top of $8,000, for their Strathalbyn, SA, property.
Second top priced bull was lot 25, Bayview Travis L53 who sold for $14,000 to Amanda Barlow, Toogimbie Shorthorns, Mathoura, NSW.
Travis L53 is a roan son of Ronelle Park Hurricane H242, and had seen stud duties in the Bayview herd last Spring. Toogimbie Shorthorns have been long term clients at the Belmore Sale, having purchased the top priced bull at the 2016 sale.
Eloora Shorthorns, Cavendish, Vic, were another active stud buyer securing lot 28, Bayview Windsor L102, a red son also sired by Ronelle Park Hurricane H242.
In total for the bull sale, Belmore Shorthorns sold 29 bulls to average $8,102, whilst Carlton Shorthorns sold 2 sires to average $7,000 and Bayview Shorthorns sold 6 sires to average $10,500 as strong bidding from new and repeat commercial Shorthorn clients drove the sale along.
Ten Shorthorn heifers were also offered for the first time in this years sale, with heifers offered as either A or B lots.
Terra and Terralea Shorthorns, Dubbo, NSW, paid the top price for lots 5A and 5B, electing to take home the pair at $5,500 each. They also purchased lot 1A for $3,500.
Lot 3A, 3B and 4A are also now headed for WA after they were selected by the Bleechmore family.
