Thousand Guineas has been awarded a bronze medal at the recent RQFWS Branded Beef and Branded Lamb Competition.
The RQFWS Branded Beef Competition is one of Australia’s most prestigious and comprehensive beef competitions, revealing the best retail beef on the Australian market.
The Branded Beef Competition includes five classes: Grain-fed, Grass-fed, two Wagyu classes and an Open class. Unlike other competitions, the Branded Beef Competition only awards one gold medal, one silver medal and one bronze medal in each class – only the best of the best are awarded medal. The expert judging panel is made up of top chefs, butchers, food consultants and food journalists. Judging is based on visual (raw), tenderness, flavour, juiciness and overall liking for a total of 100 points.
Judging for the Branded Beef and Branded Lamb Competitions took place between 2 and 3 May, with the Branded Beef and Branded Lamb Awards Presentation held on 5 May, at the Stockmen’s Bar & Grill, Brisbane Showgrounds.
Thousand Guineas was entered in Class 1, the Lendlease Grain Fed Class, and finished third with a total of 80.3 from a field of 15 entries, including some of Australia’s most recognisable brands.
JBS Australia’s Domestic Sales Manager, Denis Conroy, said “It was a good result to come third out of 15 entries and the overall comments were very positive.”
The bronze medal is the second award for the JBS Australia Thousand Guineas Shorthorn Branded Beef program, since the brand was first released early last year. Last year the brand was also awarded a Silver Medal at the Sydney Royal 2016 Fine Food Show.
The Thousand Guineas brand continues to grow domestic sales with 4 new restaurants in Victoria currently serving the Shorthorn product, with more venues to be available in both Melbourne and Sydney next month.
