Free workshop to lift Merino flock performance

Merino-flockA new Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) workshop is available free of charge to help woolgrowers lift the performance of their Merino flock.

Converting reproductive potential into profit is the aim of the workshop.

Built around scanning, condition scoring and wet/dry assessment at lamb marking, the Realising Performance Potential workshop is designed to complement the Lifetime Ewe Management course, which has now involved almost 3,000 sheep producers across Australia.

Lifting the reproductive performance of the Merino flock by at least 7% by 2030 is a stated aim within the current AWI Strategic Plan. The Realising Perfomance Potential workshop has been developed for self-replacing Merino flocks and follows the pilot meetings held in 2016 that gauged the needs of leading commercial woolgrowers.

The workshop is free for AWI shareholders and assists producers to develop the practical skills required to identify ‘performers’ from ‘passengers’ among adult ewes within their enterprises. It helps take those who have enjoyed the LTEM program to find new areas of reproductive performance such as taking woolgrowers through the new functionality of the LTEM smartphone Application which is free from the Apple App Store.

Upcoming workshops:

  • Week commencing 25th June – 2 workshops – Tamworth and Armidale
  • Week commencing 3rd July – 2 workshops – Western Victoria
  • Week commencing 24th July – 2 workshops – Young and Temora
  • Week commencing 31st July – 2 workshops – West Wyalong and Wagga Wagga.
