Chevalier College has claimed the coveted 2017 Noel Williams Shield at this years’ Sydney Royal Easter Show.
The Noel Williams Shield and prizemoney is awarded each year to the school with the highest scoring Angus school steer in the Sydney Royal Easter Show School Steer Competition.
The school steer section of the competition began 35 years ago and with the Noel Williams Shield first presented in 1994.
The shield is named after Mr Noel Williams who was one of the instrumental in setting up the competition.
The NSW State Committee of Angus Australia presents the shield each year and it is sponsored by the Reiland Angus Stud, Gundagai.
The shield has travelled to many parts of New South Wales and was once presented to a Queensland school.
This years’ winning Angus steer, Muster was bred by the Halliday family, J & C Angus Stud, from Wildes Meadow, New South Wales and exhibited by the students of Chevalier College
The steer weighed 477kg liveweight and achieved a total score of 87.5 points.
At a special event held at the college on Monday 22 May, Mr Richard Buck from the New South Wales State Committee, presented the Noel Williams Shield to the Chevalier College Show Team.
Past winners have been Abbotsleigh, Barker college, Downlands college (Toowoomba), Dubbo high school, Frensham, Hunter Valley Grammar, Karabar High School, The kings School, Knox Grammar, The Scots School, Xavier College, Coonamble High School, Mudgee High School, Scone Grammar and Scone High School.
