Judging for the Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition will take place in The Weekly Times Livestock Pavilion from Saturday 23 – Monday 25 September.
Entries are now open for the 2017 Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition, with the Hampshire Down Feature Show set to be a highlight of the program.
Conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), the Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition promotes and celebrates excellence in sheep breeding, showcasing more than 700 exhibits across various breeds.
With over $30,000 in cash and prizes to be won, RASV CEO Mark O’Sullivan said the competition celebrates excellence in stud sheep breeds.
“RASV is committed to supporting the development of the sheep industry in Victoria and across the country by providing exhibitors with credible benchmarking opportunities and feedback from highly respected industry experts,” said Mr O’Sullivan.
Judging for the Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition will take place in The Weekly Times Livestock Pavilion from Saturday 23 – Monday 25 September.
The competition awards some of the country’s most prestigious prizes and trophies, culminating in the presentation of the RASV All Breeds Sheep Interbreed.
Entries for the Royal Melbourne Show Sheep Competition close on Monday 14 August and can be completed online at www.rasv.com.au.
Entries are also open for the Royal Melbourne Show Fleece Competition, showcasing sheep and alpaca fleeces from across south-east Australia.
Each fleece entered into the competition will be judged in early September and on display in The Weekly Times Livestock Pavilion as part of the Royal Melbourne Show.
“Victoria is Australia’s second largest wool producing state, producing 20.5% of Australia’s total shorn wool production,” said Mr O’Sullivan.
“The Royal Melbourne Show Fleece Competition celebrates champion fleeces from across Victorian agricultural shows, incorporating the District Fleece Competition.”
