There was little respite from the dry spell for growers this week, consequently cattle numbers swelled online this week with 12,949 head offered, 2,255 up on last week.
Unjoined heifers and steers made up the majority of listings this week representing 27% and 32% respectively, while New South Wales were the majority state with 44% of cattle offered.
It appears while the cattle market is still strong, it may have come off the boil slightly with clearance wavering this week.
However, this did not stop young proven breeders seeing red hot demand online. Four year old EU accredited Angus cows preg tested in calf to Wagyu bulls from Trangie, NSW sold for $2,570. While 4 year old Bongongo blood Angus cows from Forbes, NSW sold for $2430.
These cows were preg tested in calf to Kenny’s Creek blood Angus bulls.
Special mention to Bloodwood Station, Elders Katherine & Territory Rural Katherine on the sale of 1009 head.
The 336 yearling bulls made $848 or 362c/kg live & 96 feeder bulls made $988 or 335c/kg live and are heading to the floodplains to be backgrounded for the live export market. 577 heifers made $830 or 358c/kg live are destined to become breeders/backgrounded for the live export market also. Of special note all three lots stayed within the Elders network, a great effort from all agents involved!

Crossbred F1 Wagyu steers continued to see buyer premiums this week, with 258kg 10 to 11 month old Wagyu/Shorthorn steers from Trangie, NSW selling for 648c/kg live or $1670.
While 10 to 11 month old 245kg Wagyu/Angus steers from Goondiwindi, Queensland sold for 661c or $1620. Steer highlights this week also included 5 to 9 month old, 180kg Red Angus steers from Inglewood, QLD which sold for 477c or $860.
