Heavy trade weight lambs sell to $143/head at SELX

SELX-Sheep-5-July

Delta Agribusiness selling XB Lambs on behalf of P Wyer to a top of $164ph.

Merino lambs ranged from $105 to $125/head for the heavy trade weights while heavy hoggets sold from $118 to $143/head at SELX.

Lamb numbers remained similar while the quality eased. There were fewer large drafts of prime trade and heavy weight lambs and most were showing the effects of the cold weather.

Extra heavy lambs were limited and there was a slight increase in hogget numbers. New season lambs were also in better numbers but were light in weight.

Not all the usual buyers attended the sale which sold to a cheaper trend.

Light trade weight lambs in score 2 condition ranged from $98 to $108/head. The medium and heavy trade lambs were $10 to $12 cheaper selling from $110 to $148/head, to average 545c to 560c/kg cwt.

Heavy lambs were $4 to $7 cheaper and sold from to $135 to $158 with the few extra heavy weights reaching $180/head, to average 530c to 550c/kg cwt.

Mutton numbers fell but there was an increase in the number of Merino wethers penned. Ewes in 1 and 2 score condition were still best supplied and sold $8 to $10/head cheaper.

Medium weight ewes ranged from $88 to $134/head. Heavy crossbred ewes reached $146 and heavy Merino wethers averaged $127/head. The better-covered sheep averaged between 410c to 440c/kg cwt.
